How long should the Wolves give the Gobert/Towns expirment?

As excited as this season looks, there's a chance this trade could be a failure. I can't help but to think about the Sixers when they got Horford and Embiid together. Horford struggled as a 4 in the Sixers system. There's a chance Kat could struggle at the the 4 in the Wolves system. I know Kat is a better three point shooter but defending 4's and shooting the 3 as a 4 could be totally different. Do you give it one system and if it fails, pull the plug or give it 2 seasons.

It depends on a ton of variables. Was the team healthy or did key players get hurt (Ant missing half or more of the season would obviously change the equation.) Another variable is Dlo. If the Dlo pick and roll works with Gobert now we might be talking about moving KAT, and then the question is what kind of return can we get? I could go on, but the truth is KAT has already played the 4 beside both Taj Gibson and Gorgui Dieng. He proved last year he can defend in space, and was often guarded by 4s and shot the 3 just fine. The likely ways this could go wrong are all unlikely.

Only way I give it anything less than a full season and a half is if it's absolutely terrible. More than likely I would give it two full years as long as it is ok or better.

5 games.
If we’re not 5-0 with a double-digit average margin of victory, burn it to the ground and start over.

If this roster fails over the next year or so and all the key players are healthy, heads will roll. The coach will be fired. I give it a five percent chance of happening.

Two seasons. If you miss the Playoffs both seasons with relative health, then it is probably time to reset.

I give it 4 years as in that's how long we have them under contract for. After those 4 years and 2 NBA titles if we can resign Rudy I give it a few more years.

Depends on how things go. If it's a total failure then obviously it's a different story than if we have a season similar to last year.

Games? Try 5 minutes you optimistic rube.
If we aren't hoisting the trophy by opening night we should just fold the team.

I know you are kidding, but our first 5 games gonna be an easy schedule. Thunder twice, Utah, then Spurs twice. All 5 games vs 3 tanking teams. So the chance of us starting the season in optimistic high is quite good. What happens after is more key.

I appreciate all the posts more or less mocking this thread. Why is it an experiment? We acquired a great player that in all likeliness is going to significantly improve our team. It's not an experiment.

This, plus we have seen versions of this before. This isn’t new for the Wolves. Just the people who don’t watch us.

If we are healthy and finish close to where we did last year, it will probably feel like a big failure, especially if we lose in the first round. Many will want to blow it up. The bar is higher now. So it really depends on how it plays out, how things look. If its a matter of KAT and Gobert looking like they cannot play together then yea, changes will probably come a lot quicker.

Remember, it’s more costly for us to simply blow it up and rebuild, since we traded away picks and swaps. Yes, those are sunk costs, but it limits our upside if we tried to rebuild.
If the experiment fails, we would likely try to trade a star for a different star that fits better. If things are going poorly it will depress the trade value of whoever we dealt, plus we would struggle to add assets. We’d likely be seeking an overpaid vet star, and we would try to remain a win-now team.

How bold would it be to fire Finch at halftime of opening night if we don’t have the lead?
I mean we’d still get less press than the Lakers, but some people would talk…

If KAT even misses a shot he's getting shipped to Sacramento

What if it looks like Russell and Gobert can't play together? What if it looks like KAT and Anderson can't play together. What if it looks like Bryn Forbes and and Austin Rivers can't play together. This is just BS. There is no particular reason why any of our players can't play together. If we suck which I think will not happen it's not because of a failed experiment. It's because we didn't play as well as we should have.

There is no experiment so no experiment to fail.

I think the only way things could go really wrong is specifically if our two top 5 centers can't play well together. Their talent alone should be able to bouy any decent team to being competitive. Even if Dlo or whoever has a down year, those two being great should keep us afloat. If there is an issue with a lesser player like Dlo, Anderson, etc. we can more easily get rid of them and retool. If there is an issue with KAT and Rudy, that's a way bigger problem to address because we have so much invested in both of them.
