Expansion Draft

Post#1 » by TheProfessor » Sat Jan 11, 2025 6:17 pm

Hey Timberwolves fans, Just wanted to know if in an expansion draft what 8 players are you protecting? Remember 1 player must be unprotected from the draft and player/team options can also be protected. Thanks guys. Also what would you be willing to give up to protect one of your players from not being selected.

I'd protect

Ant
Dante
Naz
NAW
Rob
McDaniels
Shannon Jr
Minott

I wouldn't give up assets to protect Gobert, Randle, Conley, or another player. I think the cap relief the Wolves would get would be valuable to the Wolves.

You mean, if the draft was held for this season? If we had to protect eight today, and still had the playoffs in a few months?

Ant
Jaden
Naz
Gobert
DiVincenzo
Randle
Dillingham
Leonard Miller

For me, the hardest spot was the eighth, between Miller and Shannon, and I went with positional needs. NAW is hard to give up, but there is no guarantee we could re-sign him. The team would also struggle without Mike Conley. Minott could thrive in a different situation. Can’t give up Randle or Gobert without risking the chance we do something in the playoffs.

Sorry assume the draft was in the 2025 offseason. If you were to protect Randle, you would be basically protecting his player option.

OK remove Randle (who may be gone anyway) and keep Shannon. Five starters, three young, cheap, back ups.

If we need a spot for our DET 2025 pick, keep that over Shannon.
