Who would you like as HC?

Ok let's start talking about it.

For many (even for me) Finch time in MN is over. But the question is: if you could choose, who would you put in the Timberwolves Head Coach chair??

Malone? Jenkins?

I don’t think Malone would be a good personality fit with Ant, and would hurt the development of our youth.

Two straight times to the Western Conference Finals isn’t “the next level?” For the freakin’ Timberwolves?

26 other coaches did worse. Do 28 coaches need to be fired, or 29?

Winning 4 playoff series in the last two seasons would probably be considered pretty good playoff success. Maybe there’s someone out there better, but this has been a very successful run.

Frankly I think we over-achieved with Finch as coach, so I'm not entertaining the notion of getting rid of him. Getting a a durable PG and/or a strong defending PF/C seems like the better approach. Putting another coach in does not make Mike or Rudy younger, and it might well ruin the solid relationship that this coach has with this team. We went through a MAJOR personnel change this year and we still ended up in the Western Conference finals. And I don't know how you get more out of Randle with another coach.

OKC is simply too talented to overcome with this set of personnel. Shai is MVP. Jalen Williams averaged 20+ points in the post season. Chet Holgren would be a #1 option on a lot of teams (okay, maybe some bad teams, but still #1). Hartenstein is playing at his peak. And they have defensive monsters in Dort and Caruso. They are historically good, and I think they're going to be the eventual champions (although I'd like to see the Pacers or Knicks do it myself.)

Run it back, add through draft and free agency, see what you get. The Wolves just got better as the year went by, and I want to see what this core group can do with another year.

Not only a very good PO success, the best two years of the team history.

The real question for me is what's the point of this thread when we have the Fire Finch one...

People seem to forget that OKC won 68 games this season. Losing to them isn't some catastrophe that should prompt a clean out of the team.

It's not that the Wolves lost to OKC, but rather HOW they did it. Other than the two games in Minnesota, the series wasn't close. And to me, that's not necessarily down to the discrepancy in talent.

I think people on this board vastly overrate our talent. Ant is a top ten player, but he’s not Jokic or SGA, yet. After that we have a bunch of limited one-way players. McDaniels and Randle are very inconsistent shooters, so when their shot isn’t falling, they put their heads down and try to get to the basket. That doesn’t work against OKC that is giving us corner 3s and packing the paint with insane length. That lack of shooting is exacerbated by Rudy’s lack of ability to catch, shoot, or do anything outside of dunk.

In the backcourt, PG is a mess. Conley has some moments but he’s done. NAW/DDV are what they are, useful but limited, and each struggled mightily at times in the playoffs.

Compare that to OKC, that has three two-way players at the top of their roster that all defend, shoot, and can get into the paint with excellent length and role players around them. We gave up in this game, maybe that’s on Finch to some degree, but overall, not winning more than one game this series isn’t on him.

I think we need to break up the Randle/McDaniels/Rudy front court. Get a shooter in there. Whether that’s Lauri or Durant. Indiana has shooting everywhere. They’ll give OKC a much more competitive run than we did.

This team wound up being pretty good but they were not great all season. How many games did we botch? How many times did we see horrendous play and shake our heads? That Thunder team was consistently amazing all year, that level of basketball, you don't just turn on, those are habits you form all season long, usually through multiple seasons. No one should be surprised we got bodied.

You can put some of this on Finch but really, we just did not have the roster capable of getting this job done. I think the team was stronger last year but even they had huge flaws and would have gotten worked by this OKC team.

Yes, the Wolves have been historically bad, but that doesn't deter fans from hoping each season ends with a championship. You play to win. The goal is not simply to make the playoffs.

And this is from a Wolves fan who would go watch the team play in the Metrodome.

I can be a fan and have hope and belief, and when they fall short I can be critical and unsatisfied in ways that’s are constructive.

Of coarse as a wolves fans we have endured many losing and lost seasons, and of coarse there are different goals in those seasons. Player development, just get to the playoffs.

When you are in the final 4 of the nba, it’s championship or bust. There is no satisfaction being runner up in the western conference. Of coarse we can always try our best to remain positive and find the silver linings and that’s all good for not drowning in sorrow. At the end of the day, we had a shot, a real shot, and maybe we lost to the better team, but better teams have been beat before. From coaching to player execution to brining the right energy we failed, and that is why we lost, not because of anything special okc did. “They are who we thought they were and we let them off the hook”

Just to clarify here, you and baseline are happy that the wolves made it this far, but want a championship. Is that your position?
If it is, that I can get behind, but it seems to me (and this is the bad part of internet conversations, no nuance) that you guys want to tear it all down and start over again with a hall of fame coach. That may just me reading too much into it.
