The 2025 Wolves Off Season

I looked a ways back and didn't see this. First of all I want to mention the Lynx are not in off season. 5-0 playing the 4-1 Phoenix Mercury tonight. So many big questions loom for the Wolves. Who to sign and who to let walk. Will we give our Young Guns MN a chance next season. Will we draft a PG or a Center? I think the draft is wide Open. I don't see any splash Free agent moves to be made so I expect Connelly to make one.

Is anybody going to comment here. This is where the bulk of discussion should be happening now.

We have Draft and Trade threads. Not much else to talk about in here since we're likely not going to be big players in Free Agency.

I believe Connelly’s key Wolves moves have been trades, right?

To me in the off season you can talk about draft/trades/Free agency, ownership handoff and coaching all in the offseason thread. One stop shopping. I consider the off season the time from when your team is eliminated to draft day. Then go back to the separate threads for each after that. Are you Lore/A Rod fans all excited about the handoff? When is that going to happen? Will it bring a multitude of wonders to our franchise? KG's return to Minnesota Timberwolves.

Yes, I'm excited for the new owners to take over.
Supposedly sometime this month they will be approved.
A multitude of wonders??? No, but probably a championship and definitely a KG Jersey retirement party and hanging.

We have an Ownership Talks thread as well

Outsider coming in, was looking at the roster was thinking the wolves should really go after lonzo ball. I think he would be a good fit with the team. His contract extension is pretty small salary wise I think he would be a better replacement as a fill in starter/early bench player than Dante Divencinso. Obviously some risk with his health concerns. But his shooting and defense could be useful in the playoffs to guard guys like shai, Luka, curry.

A healthy Lonzo Ball is about the ideal PG for this team.
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a healthy Lonzo Ball.

I know the injury history is very bad. I thought he looked decent for someone that missed that much time. His contract matches with Conelys, if I were the wolves I would look to take the risk on him. A healthy lonzo with Mcdaniels and Edwards would make for a new defensive perimeter trio.

I'll pose this here since I'm not sure which of the other half dozen offseason threads it would fit in; let's say that for whatever reason, whether it be money, opportunity, or something else, the team is only able to retain one of Randle or Reid. Who do you choose and why?
The easy answer would be Reid due to age but the more I've thought about it, the more I wonder if Randle brings a skillset that no one else on the team has nor one that we can replace.

Not to be a downer, but I think we should temper our expectations on how much money we spend this offseason.
Especially as a large part of the reason for the KAT trade was a salary dump.
I think depending on the player option outcome we may avoid the luxury tax altogether, and if we do go into it we may avoid the first apron.
That likely means NAW and one of NAZ/Randle are gone.
NAW will have the most options as a MLE or lower player, Naz will have as many options if he is willing to take the MLE, and a couple more options for getting 20+ like Det or SA if they are willing to pay assets to a team to eat a contract.
Julius will largely be limited to sign and trades and extend and trades even if he opts out at his salary bracket.
Next offseason he might have half the league to bid on him, but would be a year older.
Tricky decision for him.
So while the market may be good this offseason to sign Naz to an at or below market price, being stuck with Randle if he takes his player option may hinder that and make it too costly for us.
For me I think it's best if we let Randle and NAW walk and try to re-sign Naz at below market value.
Draft Fleming at 17, Kalkbrenner at 31, and use the MLE on Tyus Jones to add a badly needed backup PG to the mix.

He always looks good when he plays. He just rarely plays.
I’m all for getting him. But not, in any way, as the presumed starter.
Ball is a player that anything you get from him is gravy. But you can’t bring him in as a needed part.

I'm all in to get Tyus. One of the best passer in NBA, not much turn over and not expensive. Could play with Mike and Rob and will help to team on the play making side.

I've always liked Brogdon, but didn't pay much attention to him this year.

Brogdon played only 24 games last season. He scores decently, could be an okay player for MN but seems like a wasted roster spot if he's not healthy. He's not reliable for playoffs so he very well could be a RS stopgap at guard.
Wouldn't mind targeting Nolan Traore from the French league. Was positioned to be top-10 pick as a guard in the draft but has slid due to a pretty poor season. That being said he's a big dude and has skills, unsure of why he slid in mocks so much because I didnt' catch his games, but his season stats were low.
Other than that there's surely ways to attract interest for a guard that can steady the rotation without gutting the roster, I think it's the biggest FA question MN faces after the Reid extension.

His shooting wasn't bad. It was HORRIBLE. I hear it got better at the end of the season.

So...ya I change my stance as that's not encouraging to hear... but ya thanks for the update. I need to check out all the 25 draft class players more, but I'm still invested in the Finals lol
