Props for Gomes' Career Night

Post#1 » by return2glory » Wed Jan 23, 2008 7:21 pm

Cetlics fan here. Sorry if this has been posted already. But I just wanted to give props for Ryan Gomes' game on Monday. The 35 points was Ryan's career high. I'm glad he is stepping up for you guys. Gomes is averaging 20.5 points over his last 6 games.

What was so impressive about his performance on Monday was that he scored 35 points on only 15 shots.

I like both Gomes and Jefferson alot. Once Foye comes back, you guys should have a very exciting team. I hope Jefferson and Gomes keep playing well for you all. And I hope you guys have a good 2nd half of the season.

Thanks. I really like Gomes a lot as well. I think his showing that he's a starting caliber F and Telfair showing that worst case he can be a solid backup PG is making the trade look a lot better. 2-3 starters, with one being a potential All Star, and cap space is a lot better of a deal for a premiere player in this league than other teams have got in trades.

Thanks for the info. Didnt know all that. A few days ago I wanted to make a thread saying how much I really like this guy and how great he is for this team. If we can find a way to keep him this offseason and have him stick around and be a big part of what we do in the future, I will be happy. I love Cookie too but if I could only re-sign one, I think I have to go with Gomes.

Shrink...you still want to deal Gomes for a top-20 protected 1st?

I think we need to resign this guy.

Wow, a top 20 protected pick for Gomes. That' s getting Use that term again and you will be missing from this board for a while. IMO

oh, you plan on trading him for a 1st and then signing him on the open market?

The team that gets him will have his RFA rights, we need those rights if we want to resign him.

Also why would he come back if we traded him?

Just resign the kid.

Even if it had been, I don't think anyone here would mind. Sitting at 6-34, we'll take whatever props anyone's willing to offer our Puppies.

I see Ryan Gomes as similar to a Luke Walton. A very sound player who won't athletically blow you away, but knows his role and doesn't demand the ball.

I think a good comparison for Gomes is Horry during his Houston days. His shooting made him a great fit at SF, but his rebounding ability and inside play allowed you to have him play PF as well.

Horry was 2-3 inches taller, but that's kind of the combination I see.

Horry was a top notch athlete and defender at two positions. Gomes is also better with his back to the basket than Horry was. I'd go with Klomp's Luke Walton comp, except with rebounding as the plus skill for Gomes, and passing as the plus skill for Walton.

Who'd be willing to unload a Luke-Walton-ish, six year deal on Gomes then?

2008-09 $4,000,000
2009-10 $4,420,000
2010-11 $4,840,000
2011-12 $5,260,000
2012-13 $5,680,000
2013-14 $6,100,000
