The Phoenix Suns are planning to play the NBA's first outdoor game during next year's preseason at the Indian Wells (Calif.) Tennis Garden, Suns president and CEO Rick Welts said, according to the Arizona Republic.
The idea is far enough along that the Suns have laid out a basketball court at the outdoor tennis stadium, and team general manager Steve Kerr has visited the site, according to the report. While some details need to be ironed out, an official announcement could be made in a month, the newspaper reported.
I'd watch.

that seems weird. Its different for hockey, but in basketball even a moderate wind can completely screw up shooting. And what about the sun?
I hate playing basketball in the wind so much.

When I first saw the article wind was the first thing that came to mind.
Also it could rain.

if I find the time to watch it, I'll certainly will do it.
oh and regarding the sun issue, I guess they can play in dusk time and play with stadium lights

Seems to me playing outside would favor teams that like to play in the paint over teams who score from beyond the arc. Wolves ought to lobby the league to play all 82 games outside.

Or you could ask the Vikings.. oh wait they didn't make it to the playoffs and don't play outdoors.

Having an 80 year old quarterback negates home field advantage.

talking about football (I barely watch football) but after my basketball training today there has been a football team from here (berlin but not on pro-level I assume) in the gym waiting for us to finish that they can do their practice. after we finished I watched them play/practise for 15 mins but all they did was basically to get their body on a decent temperature. (after those 15 min the smell of my sweat was too much to handle... I went to shower then) but watching this warm up was kinda irritating because all they did was starting some plays from almost the same point over and over again. both line ups (offense and defense have been on the court) but all they did was to start that play for 2 seconds only to finish it then. they did it like 20 times but I never really understood why they did that. the offensive lineup went a few yards towards the "imaginative" touch down area (or however you call it) but after finishing those 2 seconds plays they went back to the same point where they had all their huddles and talking. with each new start they had to go a longer distance from their huddle place to the start where they began to play... was sooo weird to get the sense of it

I went to the winter classic this year (im a sabres fan) and it was a great time
Now, obviously this would be done on a much smaller scale, but im sure the fans would be excited for the game. They might as well do it in the preseason and get some extra revenue...
