Lets have this discussion again. He and the team overall has been playing well with him at the 5. Perkins got 20 pts, but only 4-5 rebs.

As long as whoever the other big guy is is a defensive prescence it doesn't matter.

Al is going to get the best defender on the other team matched up with him so calling him a 4 or a 5 won't change that match up.

You just need someone who can defend the other teams best big guy and if that player is a 4 call Al a 5 if he is a 5 call Al a 4.

honestly, there is no real difference playing him at the 4 or the 5. they both get played the exact same, so its basicly a label.

He's not big enough or athletic enough. He's actually about the same size as Olajuwon and Dream was a pretty dang effective center. The difference is Dream is 10x more athletic than Al. Neither have/had the size to bang with the big boys but Dream had the quickness to go around them.

So black and white. Al is a 4.4, give or take 0.2.

its not a knock on Jefferson either, its just that centers today are designed to stop guys like Jefferson, they're more athletes than basketball players. They can't shoot, they can't pass, but they're supersized and very athletic and they're made to defend and rebound and be **** huge. Wolves need to join the party and find one. (or else get another Al Jefferson. Maybe one that can hit from the perimeter too. If only there was another Al Jefferson out there....

IMO the answer is what it always was... Jefferson is a 4 or 5 depending on the matchup, just like Duncan is for the Spurs. Jefferson is nowhere near the finished product Duncan is, but his role should be the same as Duncan's. Against larger teams (the Cavs, for example) Jefferson should be a 4, with a larger center to match up against the opponent's top post guy. Against smaller teams (like the Suns) Jefferson can play the 5 without a problem, because the opponent only has one true big on the floor at any given time.

Gomes' ability to match up with bigger players is as big a reason for the Wolves mini-run of success as anything else. It's not a coincidence that the Wolves have beaten the Suns twice... Gomes and Jefferson match up with Marion and Stoudemire as well as any team in the league.

I here Jefferson Davis has mad hops for a 199 year old.

if love was a legit 6'11-6'10 I would think about it Devil, but rumor has it he is closer to 6'8. That with his *average* (see chubby white kid) athletic ability and I do not like him next to Al.

The thing is that people get too infatuated with labeling the whole 4 or 5 position. It is just a name. He is a post player simply put. Yeah... he can go out make a jumper every now but that doesn't doesn't all of a sudden make him a 4. In my opinion he has the size of a 5. People should just stick to saying a player is a post,swing and point when talking about labeling players.

What are peoples thoughts on going after Okafoir? IMO, he would be a great fit next to Al. Only problem? It would likely need to be S&T, which could push us into the lux. At least thats if its in the offseason. I think we could come up with a good package though.

Charlotte's two biggest needs according to their forum are a point guard and a big man (also a coach, but I don't think they would want ours). What about something like Okafor for Telfair, Smith, and Doleac?

Telfair would be a CLEAR upgrade over McInnis at backup point. Smith I think would be a good fit there. Doleac is just there for his expiring.

If Charlotte needed extra incentive, what about also swapping our first rounders? This would be less money for us to pay, easing the lux tax situation.

Any Char trade would start with draft picks. Boston for sure, if not Miami's

I would try and float our second this year (early-maybe even Miami's second also) with Boston's next year plus players.
