Post#1 » by deeney0 » Fri Feb 1, 2008 7:47 pm

From wiretap:

Memphis Commerical Appeal -
The Commercial Appeal has learned that the Grizzlies have traded Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Kwame Brown, rookie guard Javaris Crittenton and first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010.

hell of a steal. Lakers are built to contend now with a nice trio of forwards and of course, Kobe.

How many PG's do the Grizzlies need?

Conley
Lawry
Crittenton

Think we could grab one from them and then snag a big or beasly in the draft?

Grabbing Lowry would be sweet. They're thinner in the front court now; Craiggers for Lowry works. Leaves us similarly overloaded at guard, though, even if you say Bassy/Lowry@1, Foye/McCants@2, Jaric/Brewer@3... seems like someone would have to go, same situation as drafting a guard.

I'm now patiently waiting for McHale to do something like this.

The LA posters are WAY too happy. I don't like it.

Smith for Lowry works for me.

This is a great deal for the Lakers that puts them in position for a strong playoff run.

Fisher
Bryant
Odom
Gasol
Bynum

And MEM ends up with Browns expiring (good), 2 likely 1sts in the 20s (OK), and Crittenton (???). They already have Conley, Lowry, and Navarro.

How do you go from *possibly* acquiring Luol Deng, etc to this?

Only way it makes sense for MEM is if they have something else in the works.

Makes sense for MEM from a revuilding standpoint Id say. However, and although comparing Gasol to KG is stupid, it does make me feel like we got off pretty good in our Boston trade. Memphis really did not get much AT ALL

Crittenton, though? They already have Conley and Lowry

I am pretty sure Crittenton will play sg for them. Someone one the general board claims that it is Marc Gasol in place of Crittenton. I think it would be cool for the two Gasols to play together so I hope the reported deal is the correct one.

I haven't watched a lot of Memphis games, so can someone explain the infatuation with Lowry? What does he bring to the table over Foye and Telfair?

WOW!

All my friends in LA are going nuts right now. I'm in absolute shock over here. This trade makes no sense. No sense. Suddenly the Santana trade to the Mets doesn't look so bad.

How do they not get one good player back for Gasol? Crittenton? He's at least two years away.

Mempis must have other trades up their sleeve. They're starting four right now is Hakim Warrick, isn't it?

Four PGs? Lowry/Navarro must be getting moved next. Too bad we don't have any pieces to get Lowry.

Lakers immediately become the favorites this year and next if you ask me.

Fisher/Farmar
Kobe
Odom/Walton/Ariza
Gasol/Turiaf
Bynum

That's just a crazy 9 man rotation when they all get healthy.

Common sense would say that with Iavaroni, Memphis is probably going for a Pheonix-esque system and may spend a year auditioning these guards for the Nash role and the Barbosa role - but seeing all they gave up for the guards they already have (early 1st on Conley, traded a first for Navarro, Gasol for Critt), how can they not keep all three? With that assumption, one would assume Lowry is available to the highest bidder.

Lowry played with Foye at Nova, so that's one thing. He's signed cheap for the next three years, much less than Telfair will get this offseason. I don't think Lowry does anything that Telfair doesn't do, but he's a good backup PG - if it comes to it, would Telfair be satisfied being a backup? Who knows.

I'm wondering if an Odom trade isn't on the horizon for LA. Odom for Nocioni or something like that, to give them a SF with three point range.
