Lowry (post-Gasol trade)

With Crittenton going to Memphis, is Lowry expendable? Is Memphis dumping as much $$ as possible? How about offering Gerald Green's expiring for Lowry.

I think Lowry is expiring too.

He was just drafted in 2006, in the first round, so he still has to be on his rookie contract.

Lowry's got a contract the same length as Foye's (2 and a half more seasons)

why would they want to dump a promising rookie? Most likely they'll try Crittenton at the 2, perhaps trade Navarro, or keep Navarro, play him at the 2 as well, and trade Miller.

Because they're overloaded - Critt, Conley, Lawry, and Navarro at the point. They've got Miller at SG and Gay at SF, so there's bound to be an odd-man out.

Memphis GM was on the radio saying they may trade a PG, maybe that McCants/Lowry trade rumor from awhile back has legs

If only that weren't ridiculous bad value for the Wolves.

PIcks were included in the Lowry/McCants "rumor" though, right? We'd get more than a straight-up swap?

The only Lowry/McCants I remember included Phoenix, with Diaw also coming to the Wolves, Jaric going to Memphis, and McCants going to Phoenix (Miller also went to Phoenix, Tucker to Memphis, might've been a couple other pieces). In that trade, the thought was picks would actually be leaving the Wolves (this years 2nds? the Boston 1st?)

I imagine JCN would be the player they trade next. I believe his contract ends this summer and I doubt he would go back to the Grizzlies. They would then have a three guard rotation of Conley/Lowry/Crittenton.

How about Darko + Lowry for Antoine Walker? It saves MEM Darko's last year (about $7 mil). Darko seems like he should be old, but he's only 22. Do you think Darko's worth $7 mil a year through 2010?

Do you seriously think Memphis would do that? Seriously shrink? Honestly, thats one of the most lopsided trades I've seen you post shrink.

I think Shrink saw the Gasol trade and realized what a dumbass their GM is. That trade would probably fall through.

My thinking is that Darko has been a little better than horrible this season, and gone through some sort of crisis of confidence. He's averaging 6.4 PPG and 5.6 RPG which is not a good value for $7 mil a year. Guys like Antonio McDyess are doing far better. There's always the hope that he is young and will make use of his size, but this is the sixth year in the league. He did well last night.

I looked up Lowry again, and he's playing better now than the last time I looked. The 24th pick of the 2006 draft has played well the last week after a big string of games where he scored 3-to-8 points. I don't know - I'm probably in the minority here, but Lowry never impressed me .. and he didn't do enough to impress Memphis so they wouldn't use their 2007 lottery pick to draft Mike Conley Jr. ::shrug::

But mainly, this deal would be all about MEM's importance of trimming salary to make the team more financially solvent and attract a new buyer. More than most any other team, I think they would value Walker's deal, with only 15 months left on the contract.

I guess I'd include the BOS pick, but it sounds like I may just happen to be out of the mainstream of my valuation of Darko and Lowry. I think I'm right though that MEM wants cap relief. We can't take Cardinal, but I wonder if McHale would go past our 2009 alignment of expirings for a guy like Darko?

McCants, Jaric, and Doleac for Miller and Conley?

MEM is giving up the most talent but they dump salary (About $5 m next year and a couple m after that), McCants can take Miller's place, and the still have 3 PGs.

That's one fo the most homer deals I've ever seen.

Memphis is not trading Conley for anything. If they can get a salary dump and youth/picks for Miller, they may take that, but they would never take on Jaric.

OK, fine. I was thinking that Miller's and Jaric's contracts were the same length, in which case they would save about $5 m next year, then $2 m per year after that. I see now that Jaric's is a year longer so that is pretty bad for MEM.

So, nevermind. I'll stop dreaming about Conley, too.

However, if they drafted Rose....
