22 years old, low post scoring machine, good guy, not so demonstrative in his actions as KG, doesn't need to make top dollar, happy with his contract.

There is no way I would trade back a 22 year old al jefferson making 10 mill or whatever it is per year for #21.

Just no way in hell.


Now if the Gods allow us to tag team him with Beasley we will go on to win titles forsure!

1) We wouldn't be able to build a championship contender for him.

2) We'd have no future letting his five years run out here.

All things considered (specifically age and contract) no I would not, and its not even close.

The fact that Al is making over 20 million dollars less than KG this season says a lot.

no and it took me less of a second to come up with this idea.

on offense its just so fun watching Al, hes almost*gulp* unstoppable on the low block. KG popping jump shots isnt really going to lead a team just to spinning the tires in the mud.

BTW Big Al 2nd in the league in double doubles...is it me or are we spoiled with having league leaders in that category..

What is KG going to do here? Give us a few more wins and age some more? We would be like the Pacers who are going NOWHERE. At least with Al there is 10 years of big man we could surround with talent. We had good memories with KG, but there is no way i'd give up a 21/12 big man for an aging superstar.

This isn't undoing the KG trade, this is KG for Al straight up. That team has a lot of options... I'm not saying I'd trade him back, I'm just saying you guys aren't thinking it through from every angle by rejection it unilaterally.

When I made my decision, I based it on two questions "Where are we going with bringing KG back, and can we surround him with talent in such a short time?"

Both answers were no.

I think KG + Gomes + Bassy + McCants back + Smith better than ever + Foye returning better than expected would be the best supporting cast KG had since the WCFs. It's deeper than any team KG has ever had. How good is it? We'll never know, but don't underrate KG or overrate Al; I love them both, but KG would have this team at .500 and poised to make a serious run in the playoffs the way the rest of the team is playing.

I probably wouldn't trade them back. But that's entirely based in age.

KG is more of a complimentary player. Al is more of a building block.
With some luck, we'll find a poormans bigman like KG that can defend and pass.

Don't think Al will have quite the career KG had. Maybe if you look at the whole trade package? Al and Gomes are your 2 best players and they're both going to get better. Telfair finally grew up over the summer and will get better too. If only Green...,

McHale took a lot of grief, but he knew what he was doing. Al's the best young big in the NBA and I'm sure he reminded McHale of another forward who could twist defenders into pretzels. Can't think of anyone better to tutor Al. Get Al to step up his defense and work a bit more on his jumper and passing and he'll be an all star for years.

McHale must have held out for Gomes too since his contract wasn't needed to make the money work. Gomes was the last guy in the deal and had been told he wasn't going to be traded just days before the deal went down. I think he was shocked that he got traded since he's lived and played in New England his whole life. He also had played well his first 2 years despite getting jerked around royally. Bet his disappointment was his big problem earlier in the season.

Anyway, throw in a big expiring contract and 2 1sts and it looks pretty good no? You weren't going anywhere with KG in the future. Instead, you got a great rebuilding foundation and the Celts got a guy who may put them over the top. It was a win-win deal.

KG is an incredible talent. For a number of years he could conceivably play and guard any position on the court. The one problem with his game was he didn't want to be the guy at crunch time. Big Al seems to want to be the guy and doesn't want to settle for jump shots. I think Big Al is already getting calls down low that KG never got and caused him to further settle into jumpers.

It's too early to say would I do I switch straight up, but I lean towards no. Gomes, Telfair, and expirings just helps that.

What I do hope is we continue to try to build the right combination around Al. I think if earlier in KG's career we made a big trade for a 2nd legitimate player, even if it gutted the team temporarily things might have been different.

Kg is a unique talent but he still needs an inside scoring partner if he's going to beat the Duncan's, Boozer's, Yao's and Dwight's in the playoffs. That's the problem, guys that can score down low are almost impossible to find. When we traded for Big Al, we filled the most difficult piece of the puzzle that historically makes for a great team. I'll gladly take a guy who can score down low and gamble I can find a defensive big at some point to compliment him.

I would make the trade in a second. KG is a much better player than Al at the moment - it's not even close.

This thread just shows which posters miss KG to the point of ignoring the original need to rebuild.
