If we had picked who you wanted....where would we be?

Post#1 » by big3_8_19_21 » Sat Feb 9, 2008 8:53 pm

Over the last 3 drafts, if we had picked the player you wanted at our pick, what would our team look like right now?

Players I wanted who were available at our pick:

2005:
Gerald Green
Danny Granger
Antoine Wright

2006:
Rudy Gay (easily would have taken him)

2007:
Corey Brewer
Brandan Wright (probably would have taken Wright)

Granger and Gay would be SOOO nice to have right now
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

2005:
McCants .. I wanted him after the championship, I loved his attitude and he was unique in his interviews.

2006:
Rudy Gay .. Who didn't want him? Everyone knew he was going to be good and I still don't know how he fell to 8.

2007:
Corey Brewer

2005:
Granger or Green

2006:
Rudy Gay
Brandon Roy

2007:
Brandon Wright
Julian Wright
Joakim Noah

I've pretty much hated our last 3 drafts but they've turned out better than I expected.

I was into the taunting, borderline craziness, and passion for the game that he brought to UNC. Sure, he had a big head and thought he might have thought was the best player in the nation(He never said that, it's just what I think), but you could tell he wanted to win badly and I wanted him next to KG at the time, and I think his attitude replaces KGs to a degree.

One of the huge reasons why KG is my all-time favorite player is his attitude and passion.

I started obsessing about the draft in 1999.

1999: I wanted Rip Hamilton, we took Wally Szczerbiak
for the 2nd 1st rounder I wanted Ron Artest, but we took William Avery

2003: I wanted Josh Howard, we took Ndudi Ebi

2005: I wanted Gerald Green, we took Rashad McCants

2006: I wanted Rudy Gay, we took Randy Foye

2007: I got the player I wanted, Corey Brewer

I was probably wrong in 2005 for wanting Green instead of McCants, but overall I think we would be happy if we drafted the guys I liked.

1999: I wanted Maggette, but happy with Wally, the only one I was happy with.

2003: I wanted Josh Howard, I was so po'd when we took Ebi, I was screaming at the TV for not taking Howard, who knew I would be right.

2005: I wanted Gerald Green, oops my bad.

2006: I wanted Rudy Gay, we took Foye, I was ok with it because I knew going into the draft we were going with Foye.

2007: I wanted Thorton or Brandon Wright because I had a feeling KG was as good as gone.
"Dude, all I am saying is we already have a starting RB, his name is Chester Taylor. Besides AP isn't that good anyways. I hope we draft McFadden." --Me after he broke the record.

Part of it is probably that NBAdraft.net had projected him going to us.

2005: Grainger, Jack
2006: Roy, Gay, Brewer
2007: Thorton, Thad Young

I really can't remember my preference in 2003. In 1999 I really wanted Andre Miller.

I'll do shrink's:

1996: Keep Ray Allen
1998: Trade down for Al Harrington
2001: Trade for a pick, take Richard Jefferson
2006: Sign Allan Ray undrafted
2007: Al Thornton, naturally.

You'd think this joke would get old.

Ok, I guess I should do this to. Just to be fair.

1995 Jesus was born
1996 I wanted Ray Allen
1997 I wanted Bobby Jackson
1998 I liked doleac and Clark, after that I was not sure. During the draft itself I liked Rashard Lewis.
1999 was heartbreak. I wanted Rip with the wally pick, and Posey with the Avery pick
2003 I wanted Perkins. Not Ebi and not Howard. I wanted Perkins.
2005 I wanted to trade for Denver's two picks and get Hodge and Jarrett Jack. But I was the only one on the draft board to say I liked McCants
2006 Everyone wanted Roy or Gay pre-draft
2007 If we had KG I wanted Noah, brewer or Hawes. W/O KG I thought Brewer or Noah.

Well, you're lucky I didn't find out about this site until 2006. You and I would have been holding hands, running through the fields talking about McCants all day during the draft.

I wanted Granger or Wright in 2005. Wanted Roy big time in 2006, Paul Millsap in the 2nd round. Last year I was undecided really. Noah or Brandon Wright probably would've been my pick, but I didn't have a big problem with it being Brewer.

2003: Every Wolves fan was screaming Josh Howard. After all this years the league gave one our pick back and McHale took Ebi? I still can't get over it.

2005: I wanted Danny Granger, he slipped big time cause of his injured knee, before that he was #2 pick in USA Today mock. Of course Wolves passed on him.

2006: I wanted Roy or Gay or Foye in that order.

2007: I was ok with Brewer.

Yes, the Ebi picked was really disappointing, but Ebi had a lot of hype in the Nike camps and everyone was raving that he was "owning" LeBron.

McCants is better than Diogu, Vasquez, Korolev, May, Felton, Villenueva, and Webster. That is 7 teams that passed up on a better player and New Jersey and Toronto passed up on Granger too.(Those two teams picked after us)
