The latest from ESPN's idiot extraordinaire

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Thu Feb 21, 2008 5:16 pm

Billy Simmons.

Honestly, this guy stopped trying a long time a go. How can someone make ten crappy trade scenario, call it a column, and get paid for it?

He suggests the Wolves make this trade:

[/quote]TRADE 5: Philly trades Andre Miller, Reggie Evans, Calvin Booth and Kevin Ollie to Minnesota for Theo Ratliff's Expiring Contract, Sebastian Telfair, Chris Richard and Craig Smith.

Why Philly does it: I know, I know ... this trade looks insanely lopsided on paper. So allow me to explain. Philly would use Miller to dump Evans' contract, shed some luxury tax dollars (they'd save $8 million with this trade), pick up a good bargain in Smith (one of my favorite undersized power forwards, although they'd have to re-sign him), take a flyer on Telfair (showing some promise lately), and shed as much as $14 million in expiring deals after this season, giving them extra money to re-sign Andre Iguodala and remain a major player in this summer's free agent market. I like Miller, but he's never going to be an All-Star, he's always stuck on losing teams and he's a free agent in 2009, so you know they're dumping him next season, anyway. Why wait a year? The 2008 free agent class is loaded and only four teams will be under the cap this summer? What's the sense in waiting nine months to deal him for an expiring contract and a crummy No. 1 pick.

Why Minnesota does it: Here's what I don't understand about the NBA. You're the T-Wolves. Your fans are ready to drink the Jim Jones Kool-Aid. You have no hope of ever luring a free agent there, and beyond that, you have a GM who shouldn't be allowed to sign free agents under any circumstances. You also haven't had a good point guard since Sam Cassell. So why not roll the dice with Miller and build around him, Al Jefferson, Corey Brewer, Randy Foye and 2008 Lottery Pick X? Not a bad foundation, right? I don't see how it helps Minnesota to get absolutely nothing out of Theo Ratliff's Expiring Contract. I really don't.

(By the way, is anyone else getting sad that we only have 24 hours left with Theo Ratliff's Expiring Contract? I miss it already. Or him. Whatever it is.)

Honestly, does that trade even make us better? TERRRRRRRRRRIBLE.

So he's basically saying, we don't deserve to have cap space cause we can't do anything with it and we should give away our capspace to a team that is more deserving of it. Ok.

Don't worry next year it will be all about 'toine + buckner expirings.

I think this trade makes the wolves win more games by quite a bit to be honest. It fills some needs with evans and Miller, it also doesn't destroy MN's cap situation. I wouldn't do the trade, but its really not bad.

I read this last night and it's not a bad trade, but doesn't really help us in rebuilding. Miller and Evans would be nice fits, but only if this was the Andre Miller of 4-5 years ago because we need a long term PG fit.

there is no doubt that andre Miller would turn our season around he would help us win 5-10 games more and would probley help out both Mccants and Foye hes the kind of vet pg we need

the funny thing is most of u's wanted eric snow But Miller is 10 times the player he is and with almost the same contract

the only thing i hate about this deal is we have too take Evans :wavefinger:

Simmons was so much more entertaining when he was some unknown dude from Boston that wrote online about sports and pop culture.

Now that he's recognized nationally he takes himself WAY too serioulsy IMO. He brags too much about the big events he gets to attend (Super Bowls, All Star games, celebraty parties, etc), he drops names (Kimmell and Corrola especially) like crazy, and his whining about Boston sports/ripping on Indy and other cities is nearly unbarable.

Miller/Ollie for Ratliff/Telfair or Smith or Richard

seems like a little more fair deal no need too include smith since we are taking back a bigger contract and giving back exspirys

Wow this trade just smells bad. Bill Simmons and Skip Bayless are without a doubt the worst analysts I've ever heard of. I remember Bill Simmons used to rail on KG for not being successful in the playoffs, but then when the Celtics got him KG was a God.

It's funny that Simmons pushes a trade that would destroy our youth movement and salary cap space, and then has the balls to make fun of our franchise for stupid management decisions. He even compares us to Jim Jones followers. What's up with this guy? We give his teams KG, Moss, and Big Papi and he still isn't satisfied. He has to drive a stake into our hearts. Well F### YOU B####.

Skip Bayless makes Bill Simmons look like a Rhodes Scholar.

it screws it up for 1 season big deal

Miller and booth both exspire next year anyways Ollie is offcontract this year
Evans goes on a bit longer

yes Telfair is great but this is a contract year for him players usually play great than ,than when they get a big contract they play like crap again

i dont like the fact that we have too give up smith if we do 76ers should be throwing in a pick

We wanted Snow for Marko Jaric's bad contract in a financial move. We never wanted Snow for Ratliff's GREAT Contract, let alone adding Reggie Evans!

TRADE 5:

MIN GETS: Andre Miller, Reggie Evans, Calvin Booth and Kevin Ollie
PHI GETS: Theo Ratliff's, Sebastian Telfair, Chris Richard and Craig Smith.

This is ghastly for MIN.

PRODUCTION: Change in Team Outlook: -4.5 ppg, +0.4 rpg, and +1.5 apg.

FINANCE:
2007-08 LOSE $2.0 (half of $4.1, which might put us into the lux)
2008-09 LOSE $13.5 (less by whatever we resigned Craig for, if we did it)
2009-10 LOSE $5.0
2010-11 LOSE $5.0
--------------------------------
LOSE $25.5 mil

It appears that this costs us Gomes as well, sicne we can't afford to pay him and the 1st this summer and stay under the lux.

AGE: Andre Miller turns 32 next month. Evans is 32 by the time his contract ends. Booth is 31 and Ollie is 35. We put a roadblock in front of our best young player in Foye, and force ourselves to skip on a PG in the draft, regardless of our pick. If Craig Smith can't play alongside Al, how could we use Reggie Evans? And for this privilige, we give up the young Craig Smith AND Chris Richard AND Sebastian Telfair?

This trade is just awful.

I'm just in shock that anyone would think that's a good idea for Minny...he's getting PAID for that!
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.
