Really I must aplaud this man for his consideration for his players. He has made a recent history of trading players away to the best possible location for them while at the same time getting something back for the wolves.

He put KG in Boston where he is thriving. He tried to help out Ricky D and Blount by putting them on what was a ccontending team in beautiful Miami. He put Howard on the Mavs, Mike James and Gerald Green back home.

I think if anything can be said about Kevin McHale is that he cares about his players and tries to do what's best for them in the end. I hope these players appreciate this. I remember Mike James chiming in about how thankful he was for McHale putting him in what he thought was great position.

I do like that, I just hope that he got the best return he could for the Wolves as well. I think he did manage to accomplish both though, because we weren't going to get anything better than what we did for KG. I still believe what I have from day one of the trade, which is that we won that deal easily. Jefferson is AMAZING plus 2 1sts, a good back-up PG and a utility guy like Gomes plus a giant expiring is about EXACTLY what every GM dreams of getting for a rebuilding package. I could never wrap my head around the people who called McHale an idiot for that deal. Mike James was trash and we were lucky to get a shorter contract for him. We weren't going to get anything better than short contracts and a 1st round pick for Davis and Blount. I think it's pretty clear we won that deal as well. Howard was a buy-out, and I think that was the right move for both sides. Green wasn't going to be part of our future and would just walk at the end of the year, so basically we just added a free 2nd rounder.

I really like that we put our former players in the positions they wanted to be in and we really genuinely did get the best deal we could have back.

i agree, i hope that free agents can see how the FO handles unhappy players before they sign somewhere else, whatever extra kirk snyder costs can get positive reviews from players. the 2nd rounder ain't bad either

I think you're right, but he was a 16th pick in 2004, and he's only 24. I doubt he sees any court time, but since we own the rights to give him a qualifying offer, I'd rather he get a few minutes than Greg Buckner.

But I do think that at least getting another project in Snyder and a draft choice is a good thing. We would have all been APPAULED if we let Green walk for nothing. Think of the outrage here...

There is no sarcasm. I think it's a great gesture by McHale to show that he takes care of his players.

In that case I agree. He addresses it in his latest Twolves.com interview vide on the main page. It is a class act Id say.

Remember all the good things Juwon Howard has to say about the organization when the front office did him right too? I have to believe that doesn't hurt the rep of the franchise with players and agents. Even if there was no second rondner involved, Glen Taylor opened his pockets to a tune of $400,000 for a guy they may not play, but I hope it at least bought us some goodwill.

I think MN got cash in this deal, perhaps to offset the difference in salary?

Even so, I agree with all the good things said about McHale in this thread.

But....but....but...if he takes care of his players, why didn't he try to put anything around Garnett when he was a T-Wolve?

maybe the question is redundant, but surely he can't just care for his players when they are on their way out?

Without draft picks and without cap and without desirable trade assets how much would you have done?

He did try. For a variety of reasons, he failed.
