trading small for big
would any of you be willing to trade our dynamic backcourt of the future for another dynamic big man? For example, how about a trade along the lines of:
MN Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players:
Emeka Okafor
6-10 PF / C from Connecticut
13.6 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 33.4 minutes
Outgoing Players:
Randy Foye
6-3 PG from Villanova
10.9 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.6 apg in 28.6 minutes
Rashad McCants
6-4 SG from North Carolina
14.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.2 apg in 27.2 minutes
Change in Team Outlook: -12.0 ppg, +5.5 rpg, and -3.9 apg.
Charlotte Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players
Randy Foye
6-3 PG from Villanova
10.9 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.6 apg in 28.6 minutes
Rashad McCants
6-4 SG from North Carolina
14.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.2 apg in 27.2 minutes
Outgoing Players
Emeka Okafor
6-10 PF / C from Connecticut
13.6 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 33.4 minutes
Change in Team Outlook: +12.0 ppg, -5.5 rpg, and +3.9 apg.
Using this example we end up with something like this:
Okafor Doleac Madsen
Jefferson Smith Walker Richard
Gomes Snyder
Brewer Buckner
Telfair Jaric
The lack of outside shooting looks a bit painful, but a shooter seems easier to find than a dominant defensive big to pair with Jefferson...

The concept of trading small for big is a good idea, but the other team would have to agree to the deal. In the example you gave their is no way the Bobcats would do that deal. They have a thin frontcourt as is. This only makes it worse for them. Maybe we could throw in Smith and they could draft another big guy, but I would rather not trade Foye at all. As for McCants.. I change my mind about that quite a bit.

wow do you think the cats would have to say something against it before we rape them with that deal??? talentwise it might okay but 1st off they have already felton and jrich at the guard positions and they don't have a deep roster at the big positions.
from our side I wouldn't even think about it. it's a no brainer. YESS!!! for sure losing foye and mccants would hurt but we still have our pick and a legit chance to get rose or at least mayo or another wing player...
I want you to post this on the trade board and I can assure you that there won't be many positive responses by cats fans

I see Foye and McCants as the future backcourt if you don't count the draft. Okafor is injury prone. He's like a young Theo Ratliff with better offensive skills.
My Kobe Bryant website I designed myself: http://personal.stthomas.edu/dnnguyen/kb24.

An interesting range of responses. I have to agree with those who think it's unfair to Charlotte, but then I'm not as big a believer in McCants and Foye as some on this board. I think comparing Okafor to a better but just as injury prone Ratliff sounds about right. I would have thought more of you would think at least one of the two (and especially the combination) is worth more than an Okafor. Of course, this would have been better if I could have picked a better trading partner... I was hoping more of you would tweak the trade options along those lines. I didn't realize how good Felton was unfortunately.
If we were to go after Darko, I doubt we would offer both players. Is there anyone we can get who is better than Darko that would be worth the two? I have to admit they are our two most valuable pieces that I'm willing to trade (though adding Gomes/Smith/Jaric/Telfair or subsitituting them for McCants would be fine by me) - is there a center out there we could trade for? How about:
Minnesota Trade Breakdown

13.1 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.7 apg in 28.8 minutes
Change in Team Outlook: +16.7 ppg, +0.1 rpg, and +3.1 apg.
It gives the Lakers a better starting point guard and depth - plus they get Madsen back. Of course Laker fans believe that Bynum is following his natural arc to becoming a superstar, though he might simply be playing out a contract year.

I know char turns the OP down, but so do I.
The second trade is interesting, of course LA fans would not trade Bynum for Jesus so it is in vain. Also they are high on Farmar.
So no to both trades. I like Shad/FOye.
