I'm interested in giving the kid a chance next year, but dang, either Nellie really hates him or he just sucks.

I looked up his D League stats from last year and they are not bad by any means. (Well, at least later in his tenure there.)

Is he worth a look this summer?

Absolutely!

A few things that jump out-

(1) Look at his free throw shooting. He's made like 14 in a row.

(2) Good block numbers, even for the d-league.

(3) It looks like he's steadily improved.

I wonder if G-State makes an effort to resign him.

I would definately rather have O'Bryant than Hardin, and probably even more than Thabeet.

We might give him a look, but considering we're only going to sign 2 picks at the most I'd say it's unlikely it goes beyond that.

I'm all for getting POB and not drafting a center with our early pick if it falls below #2.

Right, the whole roster space thing.

Al, Foye, Brewer, McCants, Walker, Buckner, Jaric, Madsen are on contract.

We have 1 draft pick. (I'm not counting the 2nd rounders because I'm a little unsure of what we will do with them.)

That's 9 players. Even if we resign Telfair, Gomes, Smith and Snyder, we'll still be short on players.

Even if we trade them we'll get something back, unless we trade for a 1st after next season. I don't really see that though. Also, I can't decide how the FO feels about C-Rich. No way we should pass up POB for him, but it wouldnt be the first time the FO has let me down.

With the Wolves being in the situation that they are in, (absolute rebuilding, with no "top of the line" returing Center) he could make a good bargain free agent.

I'm for signing him. Of course a lot will depend on our draft pick, but right now he could fill Ratliff's roster spot. Assume that Doleac is gone and there's at least the spot for our 1st rounder.

That puts us at 15, but then it depends on who we re-sign and trade for the other spots. While we'd like to keep Telfair, Gomes, Smith, and Snyder who we draft will probably have an effect on at least one of those guys. If it's Rose, I think Snyder and Telfair are likely gone, of course any trades could change that significantly.

Maybe we could trade a 2nd round pick or two for "cash considerations" ?

Why would you trade for him? Hes a free agent next year and hes clearly not in the Warriors long term plans.

I honestly think he could be in their plans. It's perfectly reasonable to send him down to the D-League so he can get playing time. It's not like the Warriors have minutes to spare, they're fighting for a playoff seed in the West! Letting him go is by no means a foregone conclusion.

Rookie contracts are only guaranteed for the 1st two years now. After that you get to pick up team options 1 year at a time for 2 years straight. The Warriors didn't even pick up one.

Its not an absolute that hes done there, but I'd be suprised if they even bothered to match a contract where O'Bryant averages $1.5 mil a year.

They can't match anything. He's unrestricted.

It's true that the Warriors didn't pick up his option, but that was before he improved so much in the D-League. Part of it might come down to their negotiations with Biendrins.

Either way, I hope they give up on him and we give him a chance.

Actually, they didn't pick up his option AFTER his first stint in the D League. Looks like he was in the D League until March 07, they failed to pick up his option, and then they sent him to the DL again in March 08.

I guess reports are coming out that he requested it this time around.

Not sure where you're getting your info but I'm pretty sure they passed on his option way back on November 1st.

Of 2006? I always thought options are picked up or declined in the offseason.

So you're saying the timeline goes like this:

Nov 06 Option declined.
Jan-Mar 07 POB to D-League (and had good stats)
Mar 08 POB back to D-League

Nm. You're right. I was under the impression that those D-league stats were 07-08. (it's actually quite misleading when you click the posted link). That makes me think G-State actually has given up on him.

You'd think GS would keep him on the down low instead of letting him improve his free agent stock if they were interested in him.

I am all for signing him. A big 7 footer. They are a running team in GS. We try to be, but really we are a mix, but with Al being our focus on offense, it kinda allows us to slow down and become a half court team as well. I would love to see him on this roster along with Chris Richard, maybe Hibbert too! That way we don't "have" to keep Craig Smith.
