If this guy receives a Full MLE offer in the off-season, do ya'll Wolves fan see Glenn Taylor giving McCale the ok to matching? Or not (is he penny pitching for capsace down the road?)

We better not match. He's simply not worth it. Undersized power forwards are very easy to find.

We could simply draft someone like Dj White with our second rounder and call it a day.

Agreed.

I hope to keep Cookie, but I don't see them matching the full MLE at all.

He deserves no more than 3 mil per year.

The only real problem I have with losing Rhino is he seems to be near the center of out team chemistry. I agree though he isn't worth over 3 mill/year

He is more than just an undersized 4. He scores in ways that other 4's cannot. I think he is valuable and should be a part of what we are doing. It is just a matter of cost and what the teams sees us doing.

I see Smith as worth more to us then other teams. Personally I doubt he gets the ML offered on the market.

Do you think that his defense is even near average, because what I notice his D is completely awful and usually he lets the other team score more than we do, unless he is hot and then he'll make a positive impact.

I do not think his d is bad, I think his d is similar to Al's in that he is a big strong body that would benefit from playing with a weak side shot blocker.

I don't think Craig's defense is that bad, but its hard to tell - NOBODY on this team keeps people out of the lane. I'm pretty sure the Wolves are dead last in 2P% against (being that they're near last in FG% against but have a respectably average 3P% against, but I don't see anyone who actually keeps track of that stat). I think Cookie is fine man-on against 4's - not great, but not the giant liability you're trying to paint him as. As Al improves his help defense and the Wolves add a shot blocking 5, this will improve.

Its pretty obvious how Smith is a defensive liability. I'd find it very surprising if someone offered the MLE.

I would too, but ya never know. If someone offered it, I'd say don't match. Keep the money for Gomes then. I'm more worried about how this draft lottery is going to pan out before I start worrying who gets what money. I do think that a big shot blocker would help this team. Lets bring Pryzbilla home :).

I'd like to see him as part of a sign-and-trade.

Playing next to/behind Al just isn't a good fit. However, a guy that strong, smart, and quick, who can score against almost anyone can help somebody's team.

Backup PF is probably the position we should contribute the least amount of resources to. With a balanced roster our backup PF should only get 10 minutes. For example, If we bring in a 5 that means Al plays the 4 full time, which would leave sparse minuted for craigers.

I agree Doctor. ;-). Plus it is so easy to find a good back-up power forward. There are plenty of David Lee and Craig Smiths available through the draft. That is a new mold of player and I'm not sure we need one of the high end guys since we have Al locked in that spot. Chris Richard could handle the Craig Smith role I think. Obviously instead of scoring, Richard brings defense, but I think that would be fine.

I dont see anyone offering the MLE for Cookie. However, I do think that several teams should be interested in him and a few may make an offer that we might consider a bit much.

Here's a question before I can answer. Does the free agency "period" in the offseason begin before the draft or after?
