Madsen established his bona fides two seasons ago on April 19, 2006. The Wolves were determined to lose the season finale to Memphis. They flashed their Mad Dog Light against the night sky, assigned a surgeon to remove the towel from Madsen's right palm and watched him provide a Herculean effort (Hercules couldn't shoot either).

Madsen went 1-for-15 from the field, including seven missed three-pointers. He and the Wolves made a farce of pro basketball that night but achieved their objective, getting beaten by the Jordanesque Brian Cardenal, who noted dryly: "We were fortunate. Mark Madsen wasn't 'on' tonight.''

Play Madsen the rest of the season and the Wolves will improve their chances of landing Beasley. But Madsen shouldn't be asked to provide all of the turnovers, missed shots and false hustle. No, the Mad Dog needs help.

Maybe Souhan could write a column about the good things Madsen does off the court instead of making a joke of the things he does on it. Mad Dog is a big asset to our community. Besides we've heard all the "tanking" jokes already, this is nothing original. Do they all just run the same column at this time every year?

I think the team defense takes a huge step forward w/ Mad Dog on the court, I'd like to see more of him actually

to be honest, when I read it fir the first time I had to laugh a bit but after reading it again I found out it's not really sarcasm. it's pointing out mad dogs "lack of talent". I don't know that writer but unless he used to be a pro baller he should STFU because it's always easy to mock other people when you're not on their level

Why? I don't have to be a pro baller to know that Mark Madsen is getting paid handsomely to sit on the bench.

I've said it before, if I was as tall as him, I would do his job for $45k a year.

Mark Madsen is a nice guy, good for the community, but lets face it, he's not a great ball player.

People talk about the perfect back up to Jefferson being a 4 that plays 10-15min of defense and hustle. Isnt that Madsen? If we get some centers here to play we can let Mad-dog out of the cage.

although not completely on topic, that article was terribly written. in the sense that the grammar was terrible. even i picked up on that. how can he pay out on someone who gets paid millions a season, when he cant ever write an article half decently?

it's not the amount of money he gets for doing little that bothers me. I'm insulted because that writer has the guts to write about nba pros and mocking them - regardless of how "bad" they are. I bet that guy was never ever a pro athlete. but it's always easy to mock others...

and yes I'd say I'd be also at least as good as madsen if I were that tall and I'd do the job for the minimum as well BUT let's face it: we aren't that tall.

I honestly haven't seen anybody talk about that type of player being the perfect back up to Al. I actually think that Craig Smith is close to being the ideal back up to Jefferson.
