I think that if you're drafting Mayo, you let Bassy walk.

Why? I think Mayo and Foye could share the point. A 3 guard rotation of Mayo, McCants and Foye would be sick.

I could roll with Al, Brew, Mayo, Foye in our starting line-up with McCants coming off the bench.

Brewer and Mayo would make our perimeter defense something special imo.

I agree with you that Mayo is probably the third best player in the draft. I also would really like a Foye-Mayo back court. Trading McCants for a mid-late pick would probably also be cool. However, I wouldn't necessarily draft a big there unless it was Hibbert. I really like Tyler Smith and if he's there he'd be a great pick up. I think he's a guy that could go late who has all star potential.

To fill in the 5 spot we'd sign O'Bryant.

Jefferson/Gomes
Brewer/(Smith)/Gomes
Mayo/Brewer
Foye/Telfair or signable vet

I'm all for trading away mccants for a pick no matter who is drafted. I think he'll be a good player, probably in a 6th man role. I don't necessarily think Mayo will be any better, but he'd be on a rookie contract for longer and that helps the rebuild process.

I dont see much of a market for him though.

Maybe CLE, PHX, ORL, NOH, BOS might have interest but I doubt it.

I respectfully disagree with trading McCants at all. He's our second best player at this point, and I'm convinced Foye will never match him as well. Mayo could be good, but he could be no better than McCants. Why draft a player we're loaded at? Shad, Foye, Brewer, Buckner, and Jaric can all play there. I understand if we grab a guy like Rose, especially if they are planning on letting go of Telly this summer, but this team needs Beasley or a big...preferably Thabeet because I think he would compliment AJ the best. Mayo is a good player, but I honestly believe that if Foye and McCants were starting and playing 35 minutes a game, McCants could show more than just flashes of great play...he could become a consistant great offensive weapon.

I agree with this to an extent, but only the drafting big part. I think MN should draft an athletic 3\4 who can shoot and swap brewer to the 2. Sign POB or some other 5 and run with it...

As a huge Mayo fan, I'm on board.

Hardin would also be a good selection for a pick in the late teens or early 20's, if Hibbert and Thabeet are gone by then.

I think we'd be selling low on McCants if we dealt him now. I hope he really shows something over the last 20 games.

Do you think that's true though? He's scoring 15 ppg off the bench with respectable percentages. If I'm not mistaken he's in the top 20 or 25 in both 3's made and 3P%.

This is all done in less than 30 minutes a game, so unless he starts playing 35-40 minutes a game (not likely this year and certainly not likely next year if we draft someone like Mayo, Gordon, or Bayless) I dont see those numbers increasing all that much.

From what I can tell, his recent increase off the bench has not changed the attitudes of people from other teams, who see him as a mediocre, oft-injured player, and a waste of a late lotto pick.

I guess what I'd like to see for the rest of the season is for McCants to start and bring Jaric off the bench. I understand Jaric makes the team better, and helps both McCants and Foye, but I think that I'd prefer taking some losses if we could see exactly what we have in McCants .. whether we keep him or trade him.

Anyway, it seems to me most every team already has some high-scoring SG already anyway, except for us, and his fit, including age, skill-set, and upside, fit us better than almost any team out there. We won't get much in trade for him as a bench player anyway.

I think it would be a good idea to start McCants and let him play 35 mpg, either to showcase him or to confirm he's a keeper at SG. I suspect though, that Mayo has more "star potential", should it come to the point of drafting Mayo or someone else at 3 or lower.

I think Denver ( top 3 protected in case the rare chance they win the lotto) would be interested trading for him(McCants)... I think he would really shore up their outside shooting and I don't think they need rookies. You get an extra pick that you can pick on a big like Hibbert or Thompson.

Mayo/Foye/Shad would be a sick 3 guard group. No need to trade McCants away.

I'd rather keep Telfair, split Foye at the point, and trade McCants for something than split Mayo at the point and lose Bassy for nothing.

You assume Bassy wants to resign here. Depending on if that is the case and what we could get for Shad it is an interesting idea.

Personally, I kind of like the shad/foye/bassy look if we could ever get it working healthy.

It doesn't matter all that much if Bassy wants to re-sign here, he's a restricted free agent.
