Other players to be interested in?

Post#1 » by cmc32124 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 6:38 pm

I know that pretty much everyone on this site would like to see us draft Rose or Beasley and then trade our other two picks for a mid first rounder. What happens if we cant do that? Or, what happens if we trade our two second rounders for a late first rounder? What would you do or who would you pick up?

Being from michigan, i have followed Michigan St. pretty well and i would like to pick up Drew Neitzel in the second round. Hes a point guard, who has proven he can lead the team, but he does shoot a little too much. If we could convert him into a little bit more of a playmaker he would be well worth a second round pick in my opinion.

If we get to trade up to the late first round i would like us to keep our eye on Chris Douglass-Roberts. He has been having a great year in Memphis and has been having an impact on the games they play, pretty consistently.

Another guy i would like to see us pick up, is Wayne Chism from Tennessee. He is averaging 10 pts, 5.6 reb, and 1.4 blocks per game and is having a great tournament. He does have decent size as well, he plays forward at 6'9". He isnt listed on any of the draft sites ive seen but i think he could be a great pick in the second round.

What do you guys think? It has been pretty dull on the boards I visit lately and i figured this could spark some conversation..... hopefully.

Bill Walker looks like a JR Rider clone. Joey Dorsey looked like an absolute beast defensively yesterday against Mississippi St. I'd love either of those guys with our 2nd round picks.
Neitzel is a great college player but I have a hard time believing he can NBA player. Remember Blake Stepp.

Do you think Dorsey can stay out of foul trouble in the NBA? He has been raking in the fouls like they are going out of style and they dont call college as tight as they call NBA. He averages around 3 personal fouls a game. I do like his defensive prowess i just dont know if he can stay out of foul trouble in the NBA.

If i was going to pick either him or Chism, i would choose Chism. Chism has better PPG, APG, SPG, FG%, and 3PT% and they are both the same height.

I haven't seen much of Chism but I would expect he has a better offensive game than Dorsey. Defense is where Dorsey shines. I wouldn't worry about foul trouble from a 2nd round pick. If you get a guy that late who can play 20 minutes a game, you've got yourself a steal.

Thats true. I just hope we get some solid picks this year. Like always, it look like there could be a couple of sleepers in the group.

J.R. Giddens, Deron Washington, Stephen Curry, DJ White and Jamont Gordon are all guys I'd love to see the Timberwolves draft in the 2nd round. We will get none of these I'm sure.

The comparison was strictly on the court which means it would be spectacular for a 2nd round pick.

I like Dorsey as a 2nd rounder. Athletic, actually able to make an impact on one side of the ball. The guy I'd like with our other 2nd rounder is Kyle Weaver, although he may have played his way into the 1st round. I've been trumpeting that as my dream 2nd round for awhile.

Bill Walker is another guy that's very interesting. I don't see him going in the 2nd round if he leaves, though. He's been up and down this year, but it has been his first year coming off of a major knee injury.

Other guys I find interesting for our 2nd rounders are Jason Thompson, DJ White, Omer Asik, Jamont Gordon, and Jawai.

Drew Neitzel reminds me more of Mike Bibby than Blake Stepp, but I guess we'll see. Unless MSU gets a couple more wins, I don't expect Neitzel to go before the last ten picks of the 2nd round though, probably more likely he goes undrafted.

If we lose Craig Smith I would like the Wolves to take a look at James Gist

Hmm with purely 2nds I sort of adjust based on who we get.

Beasly or Randolph:
I'd take one of the misc 5's with one pick. Then take the biggest gamble\project in the 2nd round that I could. That giant from sudan for instance.

Lopez:
I'd look to pick up Walker and maybe Calathes. Maybe Damion James?

Rose\<other guards>
I take 2 centers or find a way to trade up for the best 5 available.

Overall I like Lopez the best for the team, his game seems the best fit. Rose and Foye would be interesting too. Beasley; I know MN would cram him in at PF, so I'm less excited about that. I think he'd be an awesome SF though. Mayo I could live with if all those were off the board. Hibbert plays too soft, no thanks. Off my list.

2nd round I"m looking at Dorsey, Hardin, depends on who's available and who they get in the 1st. Bill Walker in the 2nd? I wish. That will never happen though. He'll be gone by 25 for sure.

For the second round I hope we take a gamble on one of the numerous bigs. Ala Hardin, Robin Lopez, the austriallian guy or any other of those guys. I think if Curry drops he could be a Holiberg type. If we do want a young pg I would look at singletary before the mich st kid.

draft overall I am man-crushing on Anthony Randolph right now big time.

I am thinking

Post#17 » by drummerrob26 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 12:16 pm

I will say it again we trade those 2 picks and maybe throw in a veteran player to move up and take Serge Ibaka. Put him next to big Al and you would have quite the tandom. Add to that a first pick of OJ Mayo or Derrick Rose depending on where we draft and I am quite happy with the draft. I definitely agree if things stay the same you draft in the 2nd round based on what we take in the first. If we go with best available in the first then as of now lopez seems to be our guy if we keep playing well while the other losing teams continue to falter.

I'd be shocked if a 6'10 guy with a 42+ inch vertical, that has some semblance of shooting touch would fall out of the lottery. If he declares and goes to predraft I fully expect him him to be top 10. If deandre Jordan can be in the lotto based on potential so can this kid.

Granted it's all based on who we draft in the 1st, but I like Walker, Dorsey, DJ White, and starting to warm up to Kyle Weaver.

What do you guys think of Omer Asik as a second round pick? He might be a candidate to draft and stash overseas for a year or two.
