A man convicted in the alcohol-related crash that killed Timberwolves guard Malik Sealy was arrested Sunday on suspicion of drunken driving.

Souksangouane Phengsene, 51, of Shakopee was booked into the Hennepin County Jail around 2 a.m., according to the county Web site. State Patrol spokesman Mark Peterson said Phengsene is likely to face a felony DWI charge.

In May 2000, Phengsene was driving the wrong way on Highway 100 when he hit a vehicle driven by Sealy, who died from injuries suffered in the crash. Phengsene was convicted of vehicular homicide and sentenced to four years in prison.

He also was convicted of drunken driving in Iowa in 1997 and Minnesota in 2006.

I remember reading about this idiot again like a year ago. Why is this man still allowed back on the road? He should be fined just for touching a steering wheel.

on the road? dude should still be in prison for another 5 years.

This infuriates me. I was a big fan of Sealy and this assclown needed to be put in prison for 20+ years after killing Malik.

Third DUI resulting in a man's death, and somehow this guy is free and still driving. bull. If there was ever a need for a three strike rule in Minnesota, this would be it.

This dude shouldn't be allowed to drink. Getting drunk is really easy. I do it a lot and I've never killed anyone.

Well, this is a weird first post. Ummm.....introduction: I live in Minneapolis. I'm a wolves and twins fan. Not really into football. I read this board almost daily, but never really have anything to say. I think Gomes and Smith are the first two people that should be re-signed this summer. The Kinks, The Stones and T. Rex are great. So....."hi", i guess.

Do you think he has a valid drivers license? I would doubt it.

I really hope this fool doesn't have any kids. I don't thik he's above driving drunk with them in his car. He needs help he has to absolutely know he is wrong for doing this yet he continues to do so. I said it before but you would think that after KILLING a man because of your irresponsibility you would hardly ever want to get behind the wheel again especially drunk. Next time we read up on this guy it will be about how he careened his car off a bridge or something. He's like a walking time bomb.

I really hope the penalties for this guy start accelerating.

I hope they get his ass into prison for a few years.

or what about a pill that alc addicts get implanted (voluntarily) in russia? if you ever drink a drop of alc after that surgery you get killed. they do that as mentioned voluntarily but this guy should be forced to do that. he never learns!!!

It's probably not about conscience it's about alcoholism. The guy can't control himself.

That couldnt be further from the truth. When you drink alcohol, you become disoriented, you dont think clearly and surely he isnt thinking of others or else he wouldnt be getting drunk in the first place. If he had a conscience he shouldnt be drinking in the first place. But obviously, he is an addict.

All I can really say regarding this is that it disgusts me. I want to know if the people around him are trying to get him any help, it should have never gotten this far.

idk, no matter how drunk off my ass I am, no matter how much sh*t I do that I regret the next day, I know better than to get behind the drivers seat.

The maximum penalty (in terms of serving time, I'm not sure about fines) for this offense is 1 year, which I think would put him in either a minimum or medium security prison while serving (only sentences of more than a year can be put in maximum security facilities.

A harsher penalty could be assessed if this were his 4th offense in 10 years, but this is "only" his third in the last 10 years ('00-since it resulted in a death he served 4 years, '06-served 9 months, '08-TBD). He does have a 4th drunken driving arrest...but it was 11 years ago, so the book can't be thrown at him.

Being an alcoholic has little to do with driving drunk; many find ways not too while many non-alcoholics drive drunk.

The issue is that our society is relatively tolerant of this kind of behavior...in fact I'd go so far as to say that often times it's encouraged (if not given the "wink-wink").

For example, a few weeks go I was subbing for a health class in high school and they had a Q and A session with the counselor. When asked about whether or not to drive drunk, she actually said "It's really up to you whether to take on the consequences of something like a DUI". No mention of harming/killing others or yourself. Nothing in her mannerisms or language expressed the least bit of discouragement.

The legal structure of it is a very good example as well. There's no reason not to yank someone's license away for good on the 2nd offense (as they will do in Europe).

As far as the story goes there isn't much else to say other than he is a piece of **** that doesn't deserve to be called a human being.

The guy drove drunk, drove drunk again, killed a man, then drove drunk yet again. There is no excuse.

The fact that this guy is getting a virtual slap on the wrist is absolutely disgusting.

IMO these basic rules shouldnt apply because one of his DUIs resulted in a death. That should subject him to a whole new (more strict) set of rules.

As soon as I get drunk, all bets are off. I can plan all I want not to drive before I start drinking but it takes two seconds for that plan to go out the window once my judgement has been impaired.
It's to the point where I really have to stop drinking altogether because I can't be trusted not to drive drunk.
