Hoiberg On KFAN

The Mayor and asst. GM (is that his official title?) was on PA and Dubay yesterday. The only thing worth noting was he said this when asked about the draft and what kind of player(s) they're targeting.
Fred Hoiberg wrote:We have a lot of needs obviously. We need a big center that can help protect the rim. We need a playmaker up front...

The former is obvious. The latter is kind of puzzling. I interpret what he says as our squad needing a playmaker in the frontcourt. Sounds like a 3/4 who can dribble and create his own shot and for others. Sounds like Kevin Love to me. Could be Gallinari too.

well considering the biggest playmaker 3/4 would be beasley it sounds like he's holding out for some luck in the lottery and then will draft some bust center with the 5th pick

Seems like an obvious reference to Beasley to me. You guys are trying to read what you want to read.

He basically said "we have a lot of needs, here are a couple off the top of my head". I read that as it could be anybody, probably BPA. He could just be smoke-screening, too.

McGee?

He said over and over again that he couldn't talk about any specific player, and perhaps being any more specific would point towards someone. Moreover, it does the Wolves no good to tip their hand. A team may take a player we want ahead of us, and/or it would hurt us in a trade.

Everybody knows the Wolves can upgrade at 4 positions, so whatever Hoiberg says now is simply fluff. Its not like his goal is to hint to the fans who they want to draft. He might as well just say "we're set at PF but can stand to upgrade anywhere else".

Being McHale's recent trip to italy I think it is Gallinari. If we could get a 5 that can help on the boards (diop?) then a point-fwd like Gallinari would help a ton. The kid is a legit top 6 prospect.

Beasley is not a playmaker. A playmaker not only makes plays for themselves, but for their teammates as well.

Gallinari now? I think you like what you do not see, rev, because you don't like the flaws of the guys you have seen. How many full Randolph games did you get to see? How much Gallinari have you seen?

Wolves have plenty of non-PG glue type guys who can pass the ball. Gomes, Brewer, Jaric. Probably more than they need. Gallinari might be an upgrade over one of them, but he's not a solution to the problem that the Wolves lack a scorer to pair next to Jefferson, and they lack a rebounder to pair next to Jefferson. Those are the big needs that need to be addressed.

McHale and Pete Philo are in Sweden today, does that mean they are drafting Rudy Mbemba with their lotto pick? :)

Sweden? Does McHale's far-reaching AGM role include finding Minnesota-looking cheerleaders?

From reading that ^ he sounds like a mini Steve Francis. Or is that way off?
