I think many Wolves fans were happy with the trade as well. I'll miss KG, and I hope the Celts win a championship, but he was crippling the Wolves.

I got it out using the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, which was only one link away.

Yeah! This season has been great since we got rid of that dead weight. I hated having to go into games not knowing if we were going to win or lose, it's much more relaxing now.

Seriously, with KG you are one or two players away from a championship. With the trade we are four to five players away. Maybe the constraints of his salary were worth working around.

I think it's amazing that KG carried us to even 30 wins. If you insert Wade instead of Garnett in the same lineup you're evidently looking at a 15 win team.
I still think the best two players in the NBA are Duncan and Garnett.

I would much rather deal with a bad season or two for the opportunity for growth, then deal with season after season of mediocrity. There were multiple reasons why there would never be a championship in Minnesota with KG.
His salary was only a part of it. There was a lot of bad blood, stupid management mistakes, KG influencing management to sign his buddies to large contracts, and the fact that many key players just don't want to play here. Not to mention that we really had nothing to offer other teams to get those key players.

That's not exactly a fair assessment. Wade was hurt for the first 4-6 weeks of the year. However I do agree that KG would've notched us more wins than Wade would.

I agree it's not completely fair- but if you add in two other factors I think it evens out = eastern conference + Marion for part of the season.

The problem as I see it is that (1) the management is the same, (2) key players still don't want to pay here, and (3) the incentives we have to offer other teams aren't any better. I can understand getting tired of mediocrity, but my point is that every year you had a chance at greatness (if somehow the right deals were made) with KG. Now the chance for greatness requires that a lot more "right deals" get made over a much longer time period. I'm not convinced our management team is up to it. Of course the obivious caveat is that I think KG is a much better player than Jefferson - a position not everyone holds. For fans who think Jefferson is as good or better, perhaps they think the realignment of our salary cap is enough to compensate for 1, 2, and 3. Time will tell.

There is a difference though. The Wolves got a new core of young players that they can work with. Instead of a hodge podge of disgruntled players with bloated contracts (aside from Walker), the Wolves are starting a youth movement. With KG they couldn't do that. If they can stay committed to this group and try to retain the key pieces, I think they will be successful. Championship material? Maybe, maybe not. But I am excited about watching this team grow, just as I was back in 1996.
What I would dread is watching KG resent the team and city more and more while we ship players like Ricky Davis for guys that are as equally as damaging for the team, meanwhile seeing those key players continue to pass MN up for more money elsewhere.

I was VERY excited when I saw the trade. I knew Jefferson probably wouldn't be a Garnett-level player, but few are and I knew he would be a 20 and 10 all-star type player. That combined with the picks and other players (especially Gomes and Telfair) gave me some hope...especially when we started clearing house on long contracts. The fact of the matter is that the pieces around Garnett were not good enough and we couldn't deal them to find pieces that would be good enough. Past bad managerial decisions or not, that was the state of things and something needed to be done. They did what was necessary and hit the reset button.
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.
