Reasons to trade down if Mayo settles in as the consensus #3 pick:

1) A team with Foye and McCants does not need another small SG.
2) Mayo really doesn't seem like a Minnesota guy to begin with.

Any attractive trade partners in the next few lottery spots? Seattle? Memphis? NY (LOL)?

Draft Mayo and don't look back, trade McCants.

It isnt a sin to not have a true PG, but yet have 2 guys capable of running it

Interesting lineup. I was rooting for you guys to get the top pick; sorry that didn't work out. Honestly, my biggest concern with Mayo is his head. I'm really not sure if he has the maturity and intelligence to fit into a small market team with the makeup of the Wolves. Anyone else share these concerns?

Im sorta worried, but thats what the workouts and interviews and all that jazz is for, if it becomes clear he is a primma-donna type that believes he is destined for stardom in a big city, so be it.

Till then I have no worries he and Foye can coexist perfectly.

Also, our next concern is finding a big man to put Big Al back at 4. Whether we trade some picks or McCants or a combination of.. we need a 5.

I actually remember hearing before the collegiate season started, Mayo picked USC over the already reputable basketball programs so he could solidify his legacy if he were to stay.

Let's hope he has the same mindset in Minnesota.

Foye and Mayo can not only exist together, they can thrive together.

I wanted the 3rd pick just for the Mayo-Foye backcourt, it looks so nice.

They can both create their own shot and create for others, gives us a nice size advantage at point guard and Mayo can defend NBA 2-guards.

Both of them like to score and this back court has a nice balance allows them that opportunity without any detrimental effects on the team. I'm going to love seeing them both roaming the perimeter shooting open threes off Big Al double teams.

McCants has one foot out the door, has been on thin ice for a long time, and finally, after 3 years has some semblance of trade value.

I think drafting Mayo makes bringing back Telfair
make a whole lot more sense. We need his defense
to counteract Foye's glaring deficiencies on that end.
In my mind Telfair/Foye/Mayo is the prefect 3-guard rotation.
Foye can play 15-20 minutes off the ball that way.
I think they're going to try as hard as they can to trade McCants before the draft, and try to package him with Jaric for an expiring if that doesn't work.

Trading down makes no sense when the talent dropoff is so deep and the crop of big men in the late 1st, early 2nd so deep this year. You don't win trading quality for quantity in the NBA today. Lebron + crap > 22 teams this year.

Foye will be decent with his size advantage over other point guards.

I want to keep Mayo, but if he fails his interview with McHale, it would be a no-brainer to at least trade down one spot to SEA. There is no way they can pass on him with their line-up, and at a minimum, we'd get our guy and something decent (#24, Sene, etc).

However, right now, I wouldn't trade Mayo at all. We need to take a chance that we draft someone that can be a superstar. I doubt Mayo will do that, but he has by far the best chance of any player sitting at #3.

If Mchale is picking, he'll go big with either Lopez but there is a good chance he'll go with Deandre Jordan.

Trade Mccants to Seattle for the 24th pick with the intentions of drafting Brandon Rush/ CDR

2nd round pick would be used on Kyle Weaver.

Thank goodness this is Freddy's draft. If his mentor Coach Floyd has good things to say about Mayo he is as good as a wolf already. Everything you hear for the next month about Lopez, Bayless, Galinari, and swedish point guards will be a smokescreen to keep teams from leapfrogging us (If Miami can't land rose somehow), just like all the talk last year about how much we just loved spencer hawes and al thornton.

McHale needs to take a long, long fishing trip until July 1st and leave his cell phone at home.

DeAndre Jordan had a horrible year and shouldn't go top 10. If we trade into the first it will be for a big man, not a wing player.

I'm all for trading McCants, but not to Seattle. Cleveland, Washington, Orlando maybe, but not within the division.

^If a team trades for the 2nd pick to draft Mayo that would be fine because then Beasley would be left for the Wolves.

Wolves trade: Randy Foye, Mark Madsen, #3 pick

Wolves receive: Shaun Livingston (s&t-10 mil over 2 years?), #7 pick, protected future first back

I don't know. I'm getting more attached to Mayo, and I always saw this as a draft with some distinct talent gaps:

1-2
3
4-6
7 ...

In other words, I think there is a decent gap between 6 and 7.

I wouldn't hate the old deal, but I'm not excited about it any more.
