McHale in Love with Kevin Love?

Numerous sources with varying ties to Minnesota confirmed to DraftExpress over the past few days that Timberwolves GM Kevin McHale has locked in on UCLA freshman Kevin Love as possibly his favorite prospect in this draft. McHale reportedly likes the skill-level and all-around feel for the game that Love brings to the table, as well as his winning mentality, and sees him as an excellent potential compliment to Al Jefferson in Minnesota

First, thanks for the posting the article here, and thanks for not titling the thread "McHale Wants Love!"

I hope this is just a smokescreen, because I'd like to see Mayo here. However, if its true, Love, IMO, is not a top 5 pick. If McHale is going to trade down for Love, he needs to do the LAC deal that posters from all three RealGM forums seemed to like. The Clippers will pay the most to keep Mayo home, filling seats:

MIN GIVES: #3 + Jaric + #34
MIN GETS: #7 + Etan Thomas + future 1st returned + MEM prot future 1st (top 19, 18, ...)

We trade down the #3, but get two protected 1sts back. this slices a year off Jaric, and Etan can play a little center. McHale gets our first back in a Jaric deal with LAC

LAC GIVES: #7 + Tim Thomas + MIN future 1st
LAC GETS: #3 + Jaric

They fulfill their dream of getting Mayo.

WAS GIVES: Etan Thomas + MEM prot future 1st (top 19, 18, ..)
WAS GETS: Tim Thomas + #34

Same contract, better player. Haywood hates Etan Thomas. WAS is lux sensitive, so it removes a second guaranteed pick salary in 2009, and gives them a high second this year they can stash

The draft goes:

CHI: Rose
MIA: Beasley
LAC: Mayo
SEA: Bayless
MEM: Lopez
NYK: ????

I suppose its possible that the Knicks would pick Love, but I think they go Gallinari. I like both, and I'd take the risk of trading for #7 with all the other small incentives we'd pick up.

I know Portland GM Kevin Pritchard is franticly trying to move up in the draft, but #13 is probably a bit too low for Love. Maybe a 3 way involving a team between 5-10????

Nobody cares about Etan Thomas's playing ability, he's involved in the trade because his contract is shorter Jaric's

Now THIS would be a disaster. Lock in the worst defensive frontcourt in basketball for years to come...

Let me repeat .. I PREFER MAYO .. but if we are going to trade him, trade him to the team that will give the most for him, and that's LAC.

I am not looking for Love..... to be a wolf at least.

I would be more than dissapointed if we drafted Love, even more so if we didn't at least trade down to do so. I wouldn't be suprised if it isn't a smokescreen though. I have heard we like Lopez alot, Gallinari as much as any one in the draft with star potential, that Jordan has a top 5 guarantee, that Bayless should be the pick, and now the we love Love. I would be more concerned about us drafting who we haven't heard about and wouldn't be suprised that sources say we will draft any of the top 8 prospects as our top choice.

Hmm odd...I really Love Love?

I'd still think that Lopez and Mayo should be drafted ahead of him, and I personally like Randolph & maybe Gallinari(even though I know nothing about him???) ahead of him.

in other rumor news, I just got an email in my yahoo account from a guy in Nigeria who's willing to cut me in to the tune of 35% of some his local oil-based riches, all I have to do is wire him some money up front. I didn't read the details, but he used lots of big official sounding words so it seems legit.

He also told me McHale thinks Darrell Arthur is the best player in the draft and a lock at #3

Definitely smoke. If someone (especially Memphis) thinks that Mayo and Lopez could fall past 3, it increases the value of the Wolves' pick. Same game that Riley is playing with the #2 overall pick.

Because he's a 6'9, slow power forward. Him and Jefferson can't work together defensively.
