Rumor #1
Re: The whispers from Target Center (UPDATED 5/27 @ 10:15am)
****UPDATE from 5/27, 10:15am****

They're seriously working on two trades at Target Center. ONE of them will very likely go down, but they're mutually exclusive. I repeat, they're NOT doing both of these deals unless something goes terribly wrong or they get an unbelievable offer they can't refuse. These aren't real new from what I posted before, but it's an update on the directions they're considering.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EITHER:

Moving both 2nd rounders and McCants to move into the early 20s of the first round to grab Robin Lopez or Hibbert. If they make this move, they've drafted Mayo at 3.
OR They make the Milwaukee trade, moving our #3 for the #8 and Bogut. They'd pray for Gallinari, settle for Eric Gordon, or hope someone like Bayless dropped.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They seem intent on getting a center AND a guard before free agency begins. And equally intent on moving McCants for anything of value, hopefully before the draft. Attitude concerns more than health at this point.

If neither trade comes together, Brook Lopez would be the pick. Bayless would likely go 4th to Seatlle, and Memphis would luck into Mayo (unless of course the Heat make a trade).

As of now, Fred and Stack are on the Mayo bandwagon. McHale and Babcock are Lopez fans.

Finally...

In the unlikely event Rose or Beasley falls, don't worry... either are the IMMEDIATE pick.

#2 Rumor
For what its worth, I got a cousin who lives in a suburb of Philly and he was telling me one of the local hosts on radio there was talking about the Sixers asking for McCants and Craig Smith (S&T?) for their first rounder and the Wolves are mulling it over...he wasnt sure how serious the rumor was but the radio hosts def. said the Sixers have floated it out there to the Wolves.

If this is true, these both seem pretty fair.

The McCants + 2 second round draft picks for Robin Lopez seems interesting because I doubt Foye and McCants can play on the same team. It is good that McCants had a great season so he had some trade value. I think what is most interesting about this trade is it opens up the possibility of having the Lopez brothers playing on the same team again.
I think there will be better players than Robin Lopez available but I think both of those guys would want to stay in Minny if they could stay on the same team.

I think the second option will make us win more games sooner. The question is do we want to win sooner. Bayless definitely won't fall to #8 but unfortunately all the players in the lottery we need may not be available.

I'd be happy with any of those, with preference towards McCants-leaving versions.

It makes a lot of sense. We draft Mayo and then see what options are out there.

If we really like Gallarni or another player who is there at #8 we make a move and pick up Bogut as well, which fills two needs. If not we have McCants as expendable with Mayo and try and use him and other assets to fill the center position.

If this is true, what the heck are they "mulling over?" They need to take this trade and run away with it.

Craig Smith can't be s&t until after the draft, for one thing.

The value is so far in Minni's favor, though, (especially since the want to move McCants anyway) that the FO should have already given Philli an emphatic "Yes!" and started working out the specifics.

I would do #3 for #8 + Bogut in a second. I like the other trades too.

The 76er's pick is #16, and I'd happily do the McCants plus Craig Smith deal. I'd expect it to be like:

Craig Smith ($2.8 S&T) for Willie Green (exp, $3.388)
McCants for TPE + #16

This makes sense financially. McCants can't be salary matched with Green (it misses by just a few thousand dollars!), and McHale can argue that simply letting Smith walk would have been the equivalent of a TPE .. trading him adds salary to our side, so PHI should include a TPE to counteract that. I hope a deal is in place, and PHI is willing to draft our player and wait, but the timing is always problematic, since the media and fans start to get attached to a player the minute the name is read.

I much prefer that deal to McCants plus the second rounders to go later. Craig Smith, I feel, is gone either way. I'd prefer using him to get a higher pick, and saving the picks to stash away in Europe.

#3 for #8 and Bogut has been discussed. Bogut is good, but not great, but he'd help Al Jefferson a lot. I worry about what we have to pay him in a year. I really don't want to trade away from Mayo, but with the eighth, it makes more sense with the impending salary hit.

I just can't see Milwaukee trading a former #1 overall pick and a #8 for the #3. I'd be ecstatic if it happened but it has as much a chance of happening as their is a chance that Tavaris Jackson will throw 30+ TDs; chances are slim, but there's still that minuscule possibility.

The Philly rumor sounds like any other type of potential deal PA & Dubay might talk about on their shows.

I want Bogut for this reason alone. This is the funniest thing I have ever seen.

I really hope that sixers deal goes through. There are a lot of great centers that could be taken with that pick.

When is the last time McHale showed his hand before trade and/or draft? It's the one you dont hear of....It;s doubtful these informants walk out of closed meetings and begin to blab Management would be-head them.

This is getting worse by the minute. First it was passing on Mayo for Lopez, then it's trading down for Bogut and #8 (which is still better than just taking Lopez), then it's trading McCants for a mid 20 pick (that would be not wise at all IMO), then it's selecting Love at #3....

....here's an idea....

Take Mayo and run.

Are we really going to pass on a stud for a few "solid" guys? If so, this franchise needs a reminder that special talent doesn't just fall into your lap every day. Mayo's the type of player that doesn't come around very too often, and whoever gets the chance to select someone like him should be enthusiastically grateful they were fortunate enough to do this.

We have a player who has a special talent and doesn't fall into teams laps everyday...

Here is his picture.

If there is validity to it, you cannot pass up the 8 + Bogut for the 3 + filler.

A legit 7 footer with actual skill at an all-star or near all-star level and at a position of need which is valued around the #3 this year plus the #8 (who could still end up being a player we really like) has to be done. Unless the filler is something we do not want to give up (Foye, Brewer, etc.) this is possibly getting two starters for one and I understand the getting a superstar, but All-star + mid lotto (star? superstar?) > POtential (not guaranteed) superstar/allstar...

Seems too sweet a deal for MN. Actually, all the rumors do seem a bit too much, not that I wouldn't take whatever helps the team in the long run. Interesting find.

Trading McCants is bogus. No reason to do that.

If the Wolves got offered 8+Bogut, that's about a big of steal as the Gasol trade. I hope the Wolves don't waste the 3rd on Lopez even thou he fills a need, you draft in the top 5 for a star not a decent center

I swear I posted in this thread before I went back to work. Either way, I would rather have Mayo and the #16 then Bogut and the #8. Dont get me wrong, Bogut is a very very solid player, but his D is on the soft side and I would much rather have Lopez at a discount then what we will have to shoot to Bogut to keep him.

If the Philly offer is really on the table, as much as I love and defend McCants, you cannot look away from that.
