New LAC/MIN idea

Kaman for Walker/#3

The Wolves get a proven center to play alongside Jefferson.

Thoughts?

It would have to be a pick swap at least from a value standpoint:

Kaman/#3 for Walker/#7 (Gallinari, Love or Jordan)

As a Wolves fan I'd like to see what Mayo can do between Foye and Jefferson. If Gallinari were guaranteed to be at 7 I'd consider it, but I think he'll go to the Knicks at 6. I'd probably pass.

That is interesting as Kaman is a very under-rated center. I think it would have to be Gallarni at #7 though for it to happen.

hell to the no!
Kaman is nice but that's all he'll ever be. Drafting at 3 and potentially taking a future....not all star.....but SUPERSTAR is hard to pass up.

If the Wolves could get Kaman and the 7th pick for the 3rd they should do it. If they could add McCants to get the future first back that would be icing on the cake. Or if it was Jaric in place of Walker..

That's a pretty amusing offer considering the same deal has been kicked around only minus Kaman.

In my opinion 3 for 7 and Kaman is way too good for the Wolves. 3 for Kaman is closer, but ultimately Wolves pass for the same reasons they'd pass on the Bogut deal. (i.e. Wolves too far away, not the time to be committing the extra salary). If the wolves had a later pick, say 5-7, they'd have to strongly consider an offer for either Kaman or Bogut because regardless of the state of the roster that might be too good a deal to pass up.

Neither Clippers or Bucks would seriously consider such a deal though. It doesn't make sense to create a roster hole just to trade up 4 or 5 spots. The only way such a trade would make sense is if either team had another center ready to take over (a la the Raptors at PG) and neither do.

Clippers would do #3/Walker for Kaman/Minn pick returned.

^^^What would the Clips do at center than? I can see why Clippers fans would want to do this (i.e. Mayo love), but it makes little sense for the front office.

Either...

Kaman/Brand/Thornton/Maggettee/Westbrook or Augustin

or ...

Kaman/Brand/Thornton/Gordon/Ford (what I think they should do- by swapping Maggette for Ford)

is much better than....

No one/Brand/Thornton/Maggette or Mayo/Livingston

Either sign Diop with the MLE or trade for someone like Dampier.

3 + Walker for 7 + Kaman is a deal I do.

3 + Walker for Kaman + MIN future 1st is one I pass on.

Kaman is a true 7-footer, and I think he'd fit for the Wolves. However, I'm very concerned whenever the Wolves are adding a guy that gets paid $43 mil through 2012. He also had his really nice season when Brand wasn't there, so I have to question how much is mirage, but the numbers were great:

2006-7: 29 MPG, FG 45%, 10.1 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 1.5 BPG
2007-8: 37 MPG, FG 48%, 15.7 PPG, 12.7 RPG, 2.8 BPG

How was his defense?

Adding the future MIN 1st is not enough for me, but its closer. Walker has trade value too, and the difference between 3 (Mayo) and 7 ("some prospect") is very large. The future MIN pick is not enough for me. If McHale likes Love, trying to work in that #7 pick would probably be needed.

MIN GETS: #7 (??) + Kaman + future 1st
LAC GETS: #3 (Mayo) + Jaric + Buckner ($4 mil exp) + 2009 MIA 1st

Its hard trading away Mayo, but this makes me feel better. Including Jaric as part of the salary makes me feel better about the length of Kaman's deal, which reaches $12.2 mil in 2012. Brevin Knight's $2 mil expiring could be added, if LAC wanted MIN to pay the $2 mil .. the deal works with or without him .. but perhaps LAC wants to keep him to trade later. MIA 1st may become more valuable than the 7, but probably not, and the Wolves wouldn't have to wait 1-2 years. Kaman fits, and its got a future 1st attached.

I don't know if I'd be happy not having Mayo, but this is a deal where I'd have a hard time saying "No."

Kaman is a center who can finish with either hand and has very skilled moves in the post.

I like this trade, but i'd like to get the 7 off the clips in some way, and draft Gallinari at 7.

Foye
Brewer
Gallinari
Jefferson
Kaman

That's scary

I think that deal is much better since we're getting rid of Jaric's deal to make up for part of Kaman's deal. It'd be tough, but we would be filling a big hole and getting rid of a bad contract in the process and adding what will still be a quality player at #7.

I have been working on pick back trades a bit and am in favor of trying to do so.... unfortunately, this doesn't seem like the way I would persue it. There just isn't enough value coming back in return for the #3. Kaman is underrated and a very good center, but not enough to jump up to #3.

Additionally, I think the franchise needs a promising rookie to come in to add to the excitement slowly building for the team. We could still find that at #7 probably, but don't think we can rely on 2nd rounders or if we trade up there, a late first rounder to keep the fan base happy. Kaman coming in just isn't "sexy" enough to get people in the seats. Kaman +#7 pick would be much better. So something with pick return and #7 and us giving Boston 09' would work a ton better from the MN prospective.

Mayo would fill up a few seats in a stadium that desperatly needs it. Kaman isn't gonna sell any tickets.

While it's not sexy are there many true centers out there better than Kaman? Also he's pretty athletic so we wouldn't have to slow the tempo down with him.

Mayo is a sexier pick and would generate more interest, but at the same time it depends on who else we could get with the #7.
