MIN GIVES: McCants + Craig Smith (S&T)
MIN GETS: Etan Thomas + 2008 #16 + future MEM pick (top 19 protected)

If we don't spend money on Smith, the worst that can be said is that MIN has to add some salary ($4 mil this year +$1.5 mil for #17) and about $8 mil next season if Smith and McCants were off the books. Etan isn't worth his contract, but he'll play hard defense next to Al, so we'll get some value for him. The key for MIN spending the money though is to get those picks, and not lose Smith and McCants for nothing.

PHI GIVES: Reggie Evans + Calvin Booth (exp) + 2008 #16
PHI GETS: McCants + Craig Smith (S&T)

The sixers get their low post scorer and their outside shooting. Both players should be more valuable to them than the #17, and the trade maintains their cap space. Moving Evans means they can add the shorter Smith without duplication, and removign Calvin Booth helps them develop Jason Smith.

Etan Thomas is a contract they want to get rid of, since they need all the cap space they can get for Jamison and Arenas. Thomas fights with Haywood. Evans can help Haywood on the boards, and Booth is a cheap back-up, and an expiring. Jamison doesn't have to play as much PF with Evans doing the dirty work

I'd do it. One thing, Philly's pick is #16.

I'm certainly not a fan of acquiring Etan Thomas if Jaric isn't outgoing.

We can't sign/trade a free agent for a pick in this year's draft, it's technically impossible. Other teams cannot even talk to Smith until July 1st, so them picking a player for us to trade later is also highly unlikely. Any sign/trade of smith would likely involve a future draft pick and us taking back willie green and his stinky contract and jump shot. The best we could do would be to give philly a wink/wink we would not match them.

Etan Thomas may never play again. Why add more dead weight contracts?

Nice find guys. If true this could lend more plausibility to either a trade up w/ Philly or a sign/trade for a future draft pick. I don't think sham sports would put that up there without some reliable info, but it also could involve injury/performance incentives that trigger the last 2 years.

Anyone know how much we have left of our trade exception from the Miami deal? I can't find reliable info anywhere on that.

I didn't know we were still on the hook for 1.159 million of blount's trade kicker from the wally/ricky trade for 2008/2009 (from storytellers). They seem to really know their stuff there, thanks shrink.
