they view him as the most ready next to Beasley to come in and have an impact...he can probably sell some tickets....and they need all the talent they can get...they aren't in a position to draft for need...this also backs up what an anonymous GM told the Boston Globe over the weekend...Rose and Beasley going 1,2, and Mayo going 3...but back to my original post, I'll be curious to hear how Love does tomorrow...they definitely like him...is there any legit way they could end up with both Mayo and Love?...haven't given it a ton of thought...any deals make sense?
My logic is we will not give up Jefferson/Brewer/Foye.
We have the 2 extra picks next year (Bost and Mia) and early 2nd rd picks this year.
McCants could be moved with value also.
Otherwise I am not sure the S/t guys have enough value or if legally it could happen.
"We can move into the first round if we want to, but it has to be a guy that is worthwhile," said McHale. "At a certain point, if we get to 15 and there are still 20 guys we really like, then you're saying, 'We're going to get two of those guys.' So it wouldn't really make sense (to trade up)."
Basically, the Wolves very well may have the option of moving their two second-round picks to get into the first round, but see no reason to do it on draft night if one of the players the covet isn't there.
"We have six or seven guys that we like a lot, and we're (figuring out) what level are we willing to package 31 and 34 to go get these guys," explained McHale.
That makes me think there could be some legs on this. What if one of those 6-7 guys start to slip? like a pudgy white kid?

I don't think Love falls past the Pacers.

McHale made comment of moving to #15 when there's 20 guys they like. Coincidence that Phoenix has #15 and they have a history of selling draft picks?
Could a two part deal be in place to move up?
#31 and #34 for #15 at the start of draft. Then Diaw for McCants, Smith, and Buckner after July 1st?
Would be a HUGE cap savings for Phoenix. It also gives them 4 young players to add to the rotation that won't break the bank.
Then we package Walker, #15, and the Boston pick for Curry and #6?
Why for Minnesota? Wolves aren't interested in filling out the roster at this point, they'd like to consolidate assets to solidify the rotation. Buckner/Walker are expendable, Smith becomes expendable after the trades, and McCants rides the pine behind Mayo. Afterwards we're looking at a solid 9 man rotation. Draft Mayo at #3 and Love at #6.
5/4 - Curry, Jefferson, Love
3 - Gomes, Brewer, Diaw
2/1 - Mayo, Foye, Jaric
Gomes, Brewer, Diaw, and Jaric have the versatility to cover multiple rotations, thus making for a good 9 man rotation. Only major concern is Curry's heart, both figuratively and literally. Jaric's the senior member of the team and they have a team that can grow together. Next year's pick and whatever's left of the Miami/Boston picks gives them pieces to expand the rotation.
Why for Phoenix? They fix the mistake of Diaw's contract and I think it's widely believed he can't play for anyone besides D'Antoni. McCants, Smith, and Buckner provide HUGE cap savings. Smith becomes the low post banger they need, especially when Shaq is in foul trouble or trying to catch his breath. McCants becomes a dangerous scorer off the bench, something they needed last year. #31 and #34 allow them to fill out the roster with you, something they'll greatly need as their team has begun receiving their AARP cards.
Why for New York? Curry could never last a minute for D'Antoni. His heart couldn't handle the pace. This gets them a big 22mil cap savings, and they drop down 9 spots in the draft to do so. They can still look at the many bigs left in the teens that can run for D'Antoni. They also get the Boston pick next year when they finally start creating roster space.
It's not that hard to be an NBA GM. Where do I apply?

Walker (expiring) + McCants + 2009 BOS 1st for Eddy Curry + #6
Take Love at #6.
if we are unwilling to accept Curry (or ZBo) we can send him to CLE for Ben Wallace.

Much easier than mine, yes, but can you really see New York trading the #6 just to get rid of Curry? McCants would be great for D'Antoni, but they need talent, something they're lacking due to wasting money of one hit wonders.
But I think our easiest ways to move up are via New York and/or Phoenix. We're at a point where it's nice we have all these young players ad picks, but we're going to need to start consolidating 2 or 3 ok players for 1 good/great player.

I think there was an article that said the Knicks were might use the #6 as bait to get rid of Curry or Randolph.

I sound like a broken record, but Boston traded Roy for Telfair just cut one year off Raef, and it worked out pretty damn well for them. NY could do something similar.

Yep -- Donnie Walsh, the Knicks new GM, said that he'd consider using the #6 to get rid of either Zach Randolph or Curry. For them, moving one of those deals is necessary to get under the salary cap in 2010 so they can make a max-deal offer to LeBron, who they expect will agree.
john2jer - I posted mine without noticing yours -- good to see that we both agree that NYK is the doorway.

I would be interested in taking on a nasty contract in order to get Love with the 6th pick. We could either bench the contract or give them a minor roll, or even buy them out. (Curry as a 6th man? Could be interesting)

I'd be willing to take on Curry to get the #6 pick included. Walker, McCants, and Boston #1 sounds possible.
Still don't know if I'd be thrilled with Love at #6 but could live with that since hopefully it would allow Al more time at PF with Curry on the team and we wouldn't be passing up on Mayo. I would probably still start a lineup of Foye, Mayo, Gomes, Jefferson, and Curry with Brewer and Love seeing major minutes off the bench.
EDIT: Any interest in expanding it to include Jaric (who could fit their system nicely) for Malik Rose (smaller expiring)? I know it's more of a contract dump for NY so moving an expiring might not be their plan.

I agree with you that Jaric would be a good fit in a D'Antonio system, and he'd have more value there than here, so its a good basis for a trade. However, since their overall goal is LeBron, three-year deals are forbidden, unless a 3-year deal is coming back. Their three-year deals are Curry, Zach, Crawford, and Jared Jeffries. Jeffries is the only possibility I think, and Jaric > Jeffries (3.7 PPG, 3.3 RPG), but if we included Jaric-for-Jeffries, we might not need to include McCants.

I doubt Love gets past Memphis at 5. Lopez is redundant with Darko and there really is no SG worth that pick either.

I'd rather have ZBo he can sort of play and I think teams might actually have use for him(CLE\DET\etc)
I doubt Love falls past MEM

How about this.
Minnesota Trades
Antoine Walker
Greg Buckner
Rashad McCants
Minnesota Receives
Ben Wallace
#6
Knicks Trade
Zach Randolph
#6
Knicks Receive
Greg Buckner
Antoine Walker
Cavs Trade
Ben Wallace
Cavs Recieve
Rashad McCants
Zach Randolph
It needs to be tweaked slightly with additional picks going to new york the since return of value for them is fairly light as it stands, I just wasn't sure which ones exactly. I sent Rashad to cleveland since we're essentially helping the knicks steal Lebron from them and IMO this would make them the clear #2 seed in the east.
Essentially we get Love/Lopez and a quality veteran for delaying our expiring for one year.

I don't think the Knicks are struggling for cash. They can pay the luxury tax fine. I think they want a legitimate player in return for the #6 pick, not cap relief. I also highly doubt D'Antoni let's them trade that pick for cap relief or future picks in his first year. When you're a new coach, you're trying to get off to a good start, you're not trying to coach for next year.

I think those are good points, but I could also see the other side. Getting rid of Curry or Zach Randolph decreases talent, but there is addition through subtraction in the locker room too. It wasn't some old school Knick fossil suggesting that they could use the pick to move Curry or Zach, it was brand-spanking-new GM Donnie Walsh who said it.
As a MIN fan, I have to say that I felt a lot more comfortable with the Wolves this year, knowing they were getting out of their cycle of mediocrity, and Knicks fans may feel the same way if they can get Curry or Zach off the team. It cost us the beloved Kevin Garnett (though we got fair return). NYK giving up pick #6 is a far smaller pricetag. They replaced Dolan. They replaced Isiah. I think its possible they are trying for change.

Really like the premise of the deal Tekken, but I can already hear the hoards of NY fans complaining. My head is already starting to hurt. Regardless, not far off in my estimation but some sort of pick compensation has to be moved, possibly Cleve #19 to NY, MN #31 to Clev or NY for starters (you had mentioned picks). I am not sure if that makes them happy (rather doubt it), but it is a good basis. Nicely done.
What are the years and cost on Wallace? That is going to be a burden on the cap.

Not bad Tekken. It does make some sense for all parties. I would think something like Cleveland's 1st this year and maybe the Boston pick or #34 would be included. While NYK would love to dump salary, using the #1 pick has to bring something more from a fans perspective than Walker and Buckner.

Wallace is $14.5 mil this year, and $14 mil next year, Of course, if we're using Walker, thisyear;'s money is already spent, but the deal will affect our foray into free agency next summer.
Here are my two favorite salary links:
