•While the consensus is Arizona freshman guard Jerryd Bayless is a lock to head to the Sonics with the fourth pick, another team has reportedly entered the mix. Several league sources tell us there have been increasing rumblings in recent days that the Timberwolves have privately been sniffing around Bayless and digging up information on his background. Does Minnesota have legitimate interest in the Wildcats guard? Hard to say. While some in the Timberwolves front office reportedly like his athleticism, we are hearing that the interest is an attempt to get the Sonics to up the ante and trade up one spot. Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale reportedly will try to land Chris Wilcox and the fourth selection in the draft in exchange for the third pick. Would the Sonics give up a solid frontcourt player like Wilcox to move up only one spot? While the logical answer is no, one G.M. has said the Sonics will "move mountains" to make sure Bayless is donning a Sonics jerey by opening night 2008.
No link, it was sent to me. But it is interesting.

Either we never worked out Bayless because we're not interested in him, or because we secretly covet him. I hope its the former.

I can't really see MIN having interest in Bayless due to his size/defensive liability when compared to Mayo if either of the two is to be paired with Foye in the backcourt.
I see this as nothing more than a typical pre-draft mind game that adds to the craziness in the days leading into the draft.

But then what happens to Foye? Is he traded? I don't see them being able to coexist very well.

Bayless for Wilcox and Mayo? Sounds to good to be true. I'd love it though.

While that would be great, I could see us taking Bayless to get the Sonics to trade and then they back out and take Mayo and deal him. Sorry for the negativity.

I don't see why Seattle would pass on Mayo to take Bayless. Both are combo guards and Mayo is probably better since he has the height advantage. I see the only reason why Seattle would want to move up is to pair Durant with his buddy Beasley.

The idea behind the article is that Seattle loves Bayless not Mayo. (weird since I see Mayo in a Payton type light)
Sea has a good chance of being a trade buddy of ours.
We do not like Bayless, we are trying to make other teams think we do.

which is an interesting point to make, TF21, especially if we are GENUINELY interested in Bayless...Miami takes Beasley, we take Mayo, Seattle takes Bayless and then we make a 3-way deal? I can't imagine a Durant-Green-Beasley line-up working all that well for Seattle, though. Maybe Green would be included? I think we had a thread about this exact situation...or one like it.
It must be a ruse, though, my gut is telling me we're drafting Mayo and trading down for Love.

The truth in the matter is we dont know who Seattle wants.
Goto the seattle section, theyre saying the FO is being as tight lipped as possible and the Bayless to Seattle rumors arent at all true.
Heck theyre saying maybe even Russell Westbrook is the pick

And we are officially in Hell Week ladies and gentlemen. This is when the rumors are going to start flying like crazy.
I hate that I have a feeling we are going to take Mayo but have no intentions to keep him.

Im quite confident we're not going to trade Mayo, unless its a offer we cant refuse.

If we got Mayo and Wilcox, that would be nuts. I'm all over that! We lose nothing. Seattle would get screwed though.

This is too good to be true. Even if there anything to it, can McHale actually pull this off? Does the Roy-Foye debacle come to mind for anyone besides me?

If we think Mayo is better than anyone else, its too risky, since SEA could certainly select him at #3. The SEA boards like Mayo over Bayless by a 2-to-1 margin, and he'd fit just fine over there. Moreover, if they are even at the point that Mayo = Bayless, they don't have to offer anything. Like we can sit back and see whether MIA picks Beasley or Mayo, they can do the same thing with the third pick, daring us to take Bayless.
I would not take that dare.

I have talked to 3 people. We do not like Bayless. We are trying to convince other teams we like him in case someone really likes him they would be more likely to trade. As the article rumor says there is a rumor that Seat will move mountains to get Bayless.

We better not select bayless in the hopes that Seattle "Loves" him... just select mayo and sit back and see if anyone blows us away with a deal.

We do not select a guy and try to move him. We let the other team know we are considering it and we trade the spot. Trade the slot. It is risky, and in the 11th hour if they do not budge we take Mayo.

While both Bayless and Mayo are shoot-first combo guards, the consensus among the "experts" is that Bayless has the better chance of the two of eventually becoming a full-time PG. And that is what Seattle needs.
