Suppose Shrink is right...

Just for the sake of discussion, let's say Shrink's analysis of what's going between Miami and the Clippers is correct -- the basic trade being Brand for #2, Blount & Banks.

Minnesota is left with the option of picking Beasley, the worst fit of the top 3 based on our needs, yet arguably the best player or at least, most highly thought-of player left on the board.

Do we take him and see how it works for a year? Barring injury, his value as a young big would still be high enough next year that if we don't think it'll work long term, we would still have the option of using him as a piece to try and get Rubio or Jennings or someone of that ilk who might fit better.

Would a deal for Conley and #5(Love) for McCants and #3 (+ maybe BOS or MIA pick) work? If Memphis balks at that, would something like Milicic, Warrick and #5 for Jaric and #3 be acceptable?

The Conley deal I would do in a heartbeat, the Milicic one I'm not so sure of but it seems reasonable at the same time. Thoughts?

I would love to have Beasley on the team. I can see him as a player that would put up good stats who the Wolves could also get a good trade later down the road.

If he appears to be a model citizen, especially off the court, the Wolves should keep him. The team needs a little swagger and attitude anyway. I like the idea of the Terrorwolves a lot more than the Timberpuppies.

I'd love to get Conley, but he is just what a team with Miller/Gay/Beasley would need, a distributor, so I can't see them letting him go.

You take Mayo/Beasley. No matter what. Now, whether a proper trade comes or not is a different story, but when you have less than 30 wins you go for the homerun ball.

Beasley is the biggest boom-bust pick in the draft. If he is able to mature and learn the 3 spot he could be a stud. His tools look great as a 3. If he is unable to get serious and stays as a 4 then I do not see him worth a top-10 pick.

My understanding of the front office is that we are divided on this point as well. But, in order to work out a proper trade you take the guy and work the trade later.

Conley+5(love) for (filler)+3 is an interesting trade. I do not see us giving Shad and the mia pick.

Saw Beasleys 2nd workout video.

That guy can dribble like no other.

If we deal McCants in a trade for Conley and we are unable to net Mayo, then that means we are planning on running with a Conley/Foye backcourt, which IMO is terribly undersized. If we are set on Brew as a 2 and run a Foye/Brew with Conley off the bench then I dont think thats enough offensive pressure being taken off of Jefferson from the backcourt. Plus I see Conley as a guy that needs to start.

Though the small ball lineup of:

Conley
Foye
Brew
Gomes
Jefferson

Could be interesting, but may be offensively lacking.

If it was up to me, I would either pick Beasley and try to trade him to Chicago for Rose, or barring that, keep him outright and start him at the 4 (with a lot of playing time at the 3) for a year. Then, after seeing 1 year, trade whoever is the worse PF out of Al and Beasley for the number 1 pick next year and draft Rubio.

It seems like he has never done a 3 hour workout.

If Beasley falls to 3, I'm going to lawl at every NBA team. That dude can play the three, don't get it twisted.

The Wolves don't have any tough choices to make. They take whoever is left out of Rose, Beasley, and Mayo. Rose is the only one who puts a kink in the roster make-up.

As long as they can move back into the 1st round and pick-up a center, the Wolves will be fine with Beasley or Mayo.

If the Clipps trade Brand for a package that includes the #2, they will draft Beasley because the deal left them without a PF.

I observe in this board that a lot of Minny fans really like Beasley.

I agree with that, but Al Thorton and Beasleys game isnt that different from each other so I could still see them taking Mayo.

I like your attitude about your fighting spirit. Keeping the hopes alive on Beasley.

I like the idea of this thread because it keeps the hope for Beasley.

You should thank Riley, who's been talking about trading the #2, right from the start.

May 22: Heat president Pat Riley created a buzz after Tuesday night's draft lottery when he strongly suggested Miami would trade the pick if the right deal came along

June 18: Instead, from the moment the Heat landed the No. 2 pick in the draft lottery, Riley was spinning so feverishly you felt teacups-ride dizzy just listening. It is not necessarily a two-man draft, he said. The No. 2 pick is a trade asset, he insisted. All of a sudden, Beasley's character, his length, his position and his work ethic are in question. And it has manifested in consistent trade speculation and, even worse, the idea that the Heat will take a chance at another player with the No. 2 pick.

Yeah its true that Riley wants to trade the pick. Obviously to improve the team. Its obvious also that rumors to teams like Settle and Memphis are poping out.

You've been telling to people that McHale doesn't like Beasley's character but are you going to draft him if he falls at #3???

They are token college drills, but his handle is very good with him. What I got more from the video is that Beasley does work hard during practice. He did not slack during that drill. He drips talent.

If Riley thought LAC wanted Beasley and not Mayo then Riley would have been talking up Beasley and not Mayo. In order to increase the stock of the player. Pumping up Mayo and making LAC think Mia could actually take him will make Lac deal with Miami in a trade and not with Minnesota.

Also consider Riley wants Brand, and LAC played without Brand last year. (Allowing Kaman and Thornton to grow) I see LAC taking Mayo, the local USC product.

Well they don't have a choice. I doubt they will do the same if they have a means to have someone in place for Brands absence.

I hope you're right rev that the Clipps will agree to swap picks and the Heat ends with Brand. You know the Heat sign Brand to an offer in 2003 but only to but match by LAC and we believe the interest can be renewed again, after all Riley like a player that gives him a post presence.

Regarding Mayo, here's a good read.

Heat bypasses Mayo's workout
The Miami Heat eased its pre-draft schedule by bypassing a workout by Southern Cal guard O.J. Mayo today in Chicago and instead focused its attention on a meeting in Los Angeles with University of Memphis point guard Derrick Rose.

The Heat, which selects at No. 2 in Thursday's NBA Draft, had previously viewed a Mayo workout in Chicago earlier this month. Although it has been linked to interest in the combo guard, the Heat has not publicly spoken of interest in either taking Mayo at No. 2 or trading for the freshman.
