Even stronger are rumors that the Grizzlies are talking to a number of teams, including the Knicks, Blazers and Suns, about deals that would send the No. 5 pick to whomever is willing to take Brian Cardinal's awful contract (2 years, $13 million left).

Would you guys be interested in moving down two slots to shave a year off Jaric's deal? The deal would be 3/Jaric for 5/Cardinal. Interested?

How about we just take on the contract and get the pick without moving down?!

I wouldn't trade out of the top 3 in this draft to cut salary, especially in a draft now considered 3 deep.

Could it be had without giving up the #3? They're talking to teams with the 13th and 15th pick. The Heat pick should be in that range.

I like Jaric better than Cardinal, and #3 better than #5, so no.

Even tho Cardinal has one year less on his contract, it is still getting in the way of the 2009 off-season where we're looking for a marquee free agent, so this doesn't even help us very much. Plus, Jaric is a better player.

NO WAY Memphis does it but, this is the best "get out of cardinal's contract" deal we can give them.
Two expirings, one of which a decent young SG prospect and our best second rounder.

As for the trade down proposed, I would not do it due to thinking the #3 has way more value than shaving a single year of semi productive for totally non productive.

I'm not interested in that pack, but something like Walker for Cardinal+5 sounds loverly.

I dont think that works financially. Memphis would have to throw in something to make the salaries match.

I know we're in cost cutting mode right now, but we certainly wouldn't do something that desperate in order to shave some contract money.

Offer them Walker and Miami's protected 1st for Cardinal, Crittenton, and #5. Then draft Love.

Good points. I don't read it as using Cardinal to move up from #5, I read it like the supposed Knicks offer of #6 if you take Randolph or Curry.

I'd trade Buckner and McCants for Cardinal and #5 in a heartbeat. Then draft Mayo at #3 and anybody not named Love at #5.

I understand MEM trying to dump salary, but Brian Cardinal's only got two years left ($6.3, $6.75). so I don't think his contract is really bad enough to justify trading the #5. Are they maybe looking for a TPE?

If it is available, I'd be willing to offer any of our rebuilding pieces if it wasn't a trade up deal. I'd offer McCants + Buckner (exp) + 2009 MIA Pick + 2009 BOS Pick.

Saves them about 14 million and makes them epic players in the 09 free agent market, but leaves them thin up front for next season.

Well if we do that deal, we can pretty much kiss our 09 Max FA dreams goodbye. But by then, we may have a great core of young players to work around.
