Moving Forward: What happens with the rest of the offseason?

Wolves Free Agent: Gomes, Doleac, Richard, Smith, Snyder, Telfair.
Who do they resign?
Are there other FAs that make sense for the Wolves?
Now that the Wolves have a balanced roster and a bunch of future drafts picks as well as Pekovic they could look at packaging any of their young players with a pick for a upgrade. The only sacred cows for this coming year are probably Jefferson, Love and Miller.

I would assume Foye and Brew are off limits as well, though why would Mike Miller be? Either way, we have to get some sort of 7-footer out of FA whether it be Diop or POB or anyone else, unless we think Collins can play a decent amount of minutes.
IMO we should be on the phone with NJ trying to get one of their 27 bigs right now. Kristic, Boone, Williams, and they added Anderson and Lopez so Im assuming they are keepers. You cant have that much room for big men.

No way they go for Williams. I say we go for a legit 7 footer in FA. I think Diop may be a little over priced and actually a little over valued. If POB is still a UFA, I say offer him a contract, 2 years for 5 mil. We get the time to figure out if he's a real player, if he's not, he's gone the same year that we clear all that cap space.
I heard they've offered qualifying offers to Gomes, Smith, and Richard already. Doleac is gone, but they haven't offered anything to Bassy or Snyder yet. I have a feeling Snyder wants to test the market and I think the Wolves will probably let him do that. The only question remains, why wait on Bassy? Money?

I don't think the Wolves will trade Miller until they have a chance to see him on the court with Al. So the earliest, he would be traded is probably this year's trade deadline. Foye and Brewer are still "potential guys". If the Wolves package them this offseason for better young players, I think they would and should.

Besides Williams' character issues making him unattractive to the Wolves, he's worth a lot more than McCants. Shad for Boone or Krstic might work though.

Qualifying offers to Gomes and Smith are nothing. Because they were making 2nd round money, their qualifying offer is much less than what they'll be offered in the open market. Extending it is a no brainer, as it lets them match anything else that they are offered should they so choose.
If Snyder and Telfair are offered QOs, that's news - especially for Snyder, that's probably more than he ought be making, even if its only for a year.

Yeah I thought Bassy would be the most important to bring back after moving Jaric and 2 picks that could have played pg. Anyone think they already have someone else in mind for back up pg?

I'm thinking Collins is going to get more of a role than we realize.

Do you think Smith is going to get any playing time on this squad?
Telfair is probably all about the money. The wolves probably don't think he is worth the 3.5 qualifing offer. He probably think he's worth more. Same goes for Snyder's 3.3 qualifying offer.

I think it will be pretty important to resign Telfair. He played pretty well last season and there isnt much on the market for backup points. The Wolves would only have one ball-handler in Foye if they let Telfair leave.
I would also like for them to resign Gomes and take a flier on POB. Beyond that, I don't really care if anybody else comes back.

Yea that could work but it all depends on NJ they have like 3 centers and now that they acquired Brook Lopez they might not need Williams anymore. But We have to see how good Williams can be(I think he averages around 9 rebounds and 12 points in 36 minutes). McCants averages 20 points and 4 rebounds in 36 minutes, so its a fair trade because we would be both trading Young Talent.

All he can do is play d. Sounds like a perfect fit with Love and Jefferson. I don't see why he wouldn't get minutes. I like Smith but I Collins is a better fit. I don't think Smith should be resigned.

I agree that Sean Williams is unrealistic also. I think the Nets board overrates Josh Boone and I dont see him doing much especially now that the roster is chock full of bigs. I would like to take a chance on Kristic though he isnt really a defensive guy, i believe he is a real 7'0 and his mid range game would work well with Jefferson.
I can see us taking a chance on POB. I also think if Rasho is bought out, we might be able to take a chance on him in the "Kurt Thomas" kind of role. Collins is on the roster, but he isnt the defensive center he used to be.

We're set up for huge cap space for 2010 and wouldn't want to do something foolish now to screw that up--like overpaying some stiff C. It's pretty clear Love and AJ will start in the post, so let's let Jason Collins be our primary backup C. A bigger need is PG. Assuming we resign Telfair, we'll still have only two PGs on the roster, both with significant injury concerns (balky kneecap, Troy Hudson-like ankle).
How about Chris Duhon? He'd come cheap, and he's a solid defender, a good character guy, and a good A/T ratio.

They’re definitely going to need to sign Smith. See below.
They will need a quality backup power forward (Smith) when it will become apparent (probably around Mid-November) that Big Al and Love won’t be able to play together (Because they basically have the same skill set).
It’s like having two quality goalies in hockey or two quality National League first baseman. They can’t be on the court at the same time! It’s too bad that McHale couldn’t come up with anything other than a clone of Jefferson w/ the #3 pick. What an idiot.
Thus when the trading deadline comes around (sometime in Feb. ’09) … my prediction Jefferson or Love will be on the block and McHale will again make a bonehead trade.
The saddest thing about this trade (WITH THE THIRD ##^%$@$ PICK) is that we neither “got the best player available” nor did we “fill a need”.
Did I mention MeHale is an idiot. And anyone who signs his checks is an idiot. And anyone that agrees with this trade is an idiot.

My problem with this is that who are we gonna attract in 10/11? Bron is a FA and the Nets are doing everything possible to sell off contracts to get ready for that offseason. The Knicks are too. Lebron, no matter how much money we have, will not choose Minnesota over NY or NJ. Wade? same goes for him, he isnt gonna want to leave south beach weather for south pole weather. He will end up either with MIA or another big time franchise.
My whole thing was being contenders in the 09/10 off season, where we could get lower profile studs ala Okafor/Bogut/Deng. Now we cant do that so we have to contend with the big shot teams for the big shot players, I really dont like our odds.
If we dont hold on to Telfair, or we decide Foye is our SG then I would be cool with Duhon though I dont want to lose Telfair nor force Foye to play solely SG.

I think Love and Al have very different skill sets and thats why they will work well together. What we have heard is two of Love's best attributes are shooting and passing, both something Al struggles with.
Just because they are roughly the same size does not mean they have the same skill sets.
