MN extracted full value for that 2nd round pick. Now I'm not sure if the wolves would have been interested during the draft for something like this but after the draft this make a whole lot of sense.

At the draft:
Jordan = ~2m? + 2 miami 2nds (~1m?) = 2-3m in value

This offer:
Jordan's 2nd round salary + Knight = 2m

But the wolves end up getting 2 pieces of need. A backup pg, and an athletic bigman to develop. Knight alone might be enough to use the TPE on all things considered.

Would this make people feel better?

LAC gives Brevin Knight, Josh Powell, MIN future 1st returned, maybe some cash?

MIN gives TPE (blount) + BOS 2009 1st

Sure, but LAC doesn't do that. They need to ADD depth, not take it away. Plus, our future 1st is worth more than that. LAC paid Baron, they're going to pay Brand - this is an all or nothing year. After they underachieve, maybe they make trades like this next year. For example. after the KG trade, Boston was way over the lux. But did they move Powe or Tony Allen or something like that? No, they went out and spent money on Brown and Cassell.

If LAC doesn't clear a little more money, they can't match the GSW deal.

If they can't match the GSW deal and Brand walks, they made a huge mistake paying all that money for Baron Davis.

I'm glad you brought up BOS, because that is exactly what LAC would do. Like BOS, LAC would have a lot of money locked up in big contract players. Also like BOS, LAC would gain its depth by trying to offer vet min contracts to guys like Sam Cassell and PJ Brown. Vet min deals are done as exceptions, so they don't count against other depth through the MLE.

I don't think they have to match the GSW deal. Brand wants to return to LAC.

You could be right, but Brand was ready to leave LAC for Miami, but the Clippers dragged him back by matching the offer.

Clearly, LAC can't afford to risk Brand walking after paying all that money to Baron Davis. Keeping some future pick that most likely won't be Top Ten probably isn't worth the risk

In any event, its not like Brand doesn't deserve LAC to make a better offer, especially not to hold onto non-essential assets.
