Posey signed with Hornets, time for McHale-Ainge trade again

they need someone to replace Posey, someone like Childress or Gomes type....

is it good for us to trade one of Carney or S&T Gomes to the Celtics for a backup PG like Tony Allen or Eddie House? I figure thats good for both teams, they don need House, Allen, Rondo, and Cassell jamming the point guard position anywayz and we obviously have two same type of players in Gomes and Carney to add to the already crowded wing positions with McCants and Brewer.....

ur thought?

also I think Ainge is always the number one trading partner in McFale's mind.....

I wouldn't say Allen is a pg. he's more of a sg/sf tweener and I'm not sure if Eddie House is the kind of vet pg were looking for. a real ball handler and distributor would be better for us.

unless Boston would somehow take Cardinal's contract or they'll have a 1st rounder we didn't know they had I doubt we're good trading partners.

Have to say, I really like the Hornets going after him. They bring in a solid rotation vet with championship experience. Is he a major starter? No, but he brings a lot to the table and the deal really sends a message to the organization and the league that New Orleans is going to go after it.

Now I am not sure on the details of the deal. Most likely they overspent in years or salary, but that aside, it is really a bold/in your face type of move/signing that makes a powerful statement. Of course, they need much more help at guard and Poesy may slow Wright's development, but still have to respect the move. Good luck Hornets.

Or, they just sign Gomes outright.

BOS fans might jump at something like:

Scal + cash + future 1st for gomes (s&t)

Could save them money. If they use the MLE on gomes @4m/yr. They will have to spend and additional 8m over 2 years cuz of lux. Gomes isn't worth 8m/yr. A trade with scal for gomes cuts that down to +2m. Making a trade for gomes more like a 5m/yr deal with lux included. Its about even when you include the value of the pick and the cash, but they maintain the MLE and get more talent.

Scal doesnt hurt 2010 cap space and we'd get something for taking him. On our end scal costs ~6m over 2 years. 3m cash + 1st round pick = 6m in value. Breakeven, but aquires future assets!

^^yup, chances are they offer Gomes a deal slightly less (4 year 20mil) and we let him go. Fact is no one on the celtics roster that they are willing to give would we want.

Tony Allen is a 2/3 he is no where near a pg.

Eddie House would be an interesting pick-up. He is a very good defender, has vet experience and legit shooting range. The issue is he really is not a pg and the salaries simply do not match. (unless we crazy pay more for house)

Honestly Telfair>House, but House is not a bad guy.

Kudos. I had looked at the Celtics as a team of need for win-now players, but I finally gave up, thinking we'd taken everything they would give up, Your trade makes some sense. Its not something I ever thought of.

I think the price is a little too high for the Wolves though. While Scalabrine is a two year deal, we'd pay about $6.6 mil for the first. That seems a little high to me, though its possible the Celtics could be done by the 2010-2011 season. Personally, I think KG will be an effective player for many years. I don't know what else BOS could offer though? A future 2nd seems low. Glen Davis or Giddens don't necessarily fit.

Yes, BOS could offer the full MLE and may do that. However, for us to turn a bad contract into a good one, on a team over the lux, has to be appealing. When they use the full MLE, they are paying Gomes over $10 mil.

Nah values correct, check it.

Scal Salary 6.6m - 3m from trade= $3.6m + pick

pick = 3.6m

Make it in the future, like their 2012 pick unprotected. Some cool otis thorpe stuff.

Or we could just not take anyone and have cap space for a minor improvement next year :-)

Gomes is worth more than simple cap space.

WHY IS THE GAME NOT AVAILABLE YET (sorry)

I forgot the $3 mil. I'm on board. nice work!

Toss that up on the BOS board, and see what they think. We could offer Gomes up to $4.1 mil and still match Scalabrine and we'll have to wait until July 31st for the one-year return to the team that he originally came from. I'm sure those Celtics fans love Gomes as much as we do.

Serious, it needs to be a distant 1st so we have the potential of getting something better than the 27th overall.

Well, Boston is presumably sending us there 2009 1st, so it could only be 2011 at the earliest.

if the protection was not much (top 10---I would not accept lotto protection) then why not?

The Smith resigning could mean Gomes is out.
