So who's the combo guard?

Post#1 » by Klomp » Tue Jul 22, 2008 6:35 am

McHale said they're on the market for one, so who is it? Some possibilities may include:

VIA TRADE
Damon Jones
Javaris Crittenton

VIA FREE AGENCY
Salim Stoudamire
Derek Anderson
Juan Dixon
Julius Hodge
Smush Parker
Flip Murray
Blake Ahearn
Bryce Taylor

Felton could be a choice, don't know who we'd give up.. Maybe a s&t for Gomes and filler if the salaries don't work?

I really hope it is not Jones or Parker.. It will probably be Ahearn.

The last I've heard, Shaun Livingston is still on the market. As long as his knee checks out, he would probably be the best option, and on top of that, he should come fairly cheap.

Also, as far as the knee goes, he wouldn't be required to do very much for the team as it is now, so he would have plenty of time to work with the team's strength and conditioning coaches without risking further injury.

If I remember correctly we wanted

1.) pg
2.) A guy that could play 3/2/1 on your list only my boy Juels fits.

It would need to be a trade, we have a log-jam right now.

S&T Gomes along with Booth for Marcus williams and Boone from Nets, or for Felton and Ajinca, or Boykins and Nazr Mohammad from the bobcats would be cool

Doubt the other team would do any of that. Also, none of those guards fit in with what we need.

not many role player 1,2,3 types that I can think of: Jaric, Salmons, Sefolosha

and looking down the Shamsports FA list: Penny Hardaway (doubt he'd accept a small role from a non-contender), Jalen Rose (probably can't play much PG anymore), Bobby Sura (I think he retired or something), James White played some PG, Alvin Williams (like Sura, I think he didn't drink enough milk and his body disintegrated)

knowing my irrational love for athleticism, I like James White the best

Sefolosha would be great, but I don't know what the trade cost would be.

Was it either a PG or a combo guard if we couldn't get a true PG? I agree it's a bit jammed up, but I think Hodge would be a good guy to take a flier on.

I think now our PG rotation is set with Bassy staying so it will probably be a vet combo guard and i agree that we need a trade to get that

sham says Hodge is signed in Italy; don't know what kind of NBA opt outs he has:

Shaun Livingston prolly could play 1-2-3. He is a very tall guy and is athletic enough, wonder if he has bulked up in his absence.

Out of all those guys, the only one I like is Flip Murray on a 1 year deal.
"Dude, all I am saying is we already have a starting RB, his name is Chester Taylor. Besides AP isn't that good anyways. I hope we draft McFadden." --Me after he broke the record.

How about Randy Foye and a future 1st round pick to the Grizzlies for Marko Jaric? Oh wait... :-)

Of the given options, Livingston on a shorter trial deal (2 years or less) would be my first choice, though I am not overly enamoured with any of the options listed so far.

I think they sign a PG from a SL roster, Devean George, and call it a roster.

Any love for Mardy Collins? NYK may be cleaning house for roster spots and/or clearing money off the books. His #'s won't wow you, but he'd be a serviceable 3rd point.

Calvin Booth + 2nd rd pick for Mardy Collins
--->Booth is cut from NYK.

Fills out the roster:

Foye/Telfair/M. Collins
McCants/Brewer/Carney
Miller/Gomes/Cardinal
Love/Smith/Madsen
Jefferson/J. Collins/Richard

Its an interesting idea, but we'd have to offer our TPE and not Booth, since both Booth and Collins have guaranteed salary for 2008-09, and both can be off rosters by next Summer.

I thought today's trade brought up some familiar faces in Taurean Green and Bobby Jones, who'll probably both be cut (their salaries are not guaranteed if they are cut this month). I don't think we have the space, but I just liked the "Hey! I remember that guy!" feeling for the little-used second rounders.
