Offseason Workouts

Post#1 » by Klomp » Fri Jul 25, 2008 4:13 pm

The content of this story is a bit old, but I thought it'd be good to post:

After one of the workouts in the Wolves' practice facility in the basement of Target Center, some of the Rockets officials noticed a handful of older players gathering on the side - waiting to take the court.

"The Houston people came up here and were absolutely startled," McHale said.

Jefferson, Foye, McCants, Brewer and Chris Richard were among those present.

"There were like six, seven guys getting ready to work out," McHale said. "They were like, 'What are these guys doing?' And I said, 'Oh, they work out after our workout with the young guys.' They said, 'You've got to be kidding me. You've got that many guys in?' I said, 'Yeah, most of the team will be in here in August.'"

The work ethic of our guys is being noticed by others around the league. I think the remarkable thing is that its some of our best players that are putting time in, and not just the scrubs.

We are on to something big here.......

I especially like that Jefferson is there, as great as he is and is gonna be, he knows there are aspects of his game that needs fine-tuning. He hasnt let anything go to his head since he has been here and has been extremely professional.

Im glad McCants is working on his game too, hopefully it results in more in-control on the court performances.

Thanks for posting this klomp .. more good news. They don't get paid any extra to do this as far as I know -- they get their annual contracts and that's that.

This not only shows character, but a willingness to admit you need to get better. Yes, more practice time may help McCants fix his problem with being out-of-control, but each of them has their own areas where they could definitely improve: Al - defense, Brewer - shooting, Foye - PG play, Richard (everything). I like the fact that these guys want to get better, and are working harder than most other players to see that this happens. This hard work at practice sets good athletes apart from great ones .. Jordan, Karl Malone, Lance Armstrong, and Kevin Garnett. I'm glad we have young players who have a little of those guys inside of them.

Hopefully Big Al shows a bit of a left hand this season

good to hear that the core group are putting this much work on their game.
hopefully brewer plays more in control on offense so that he can be a 2 way player.

Always great to hear that the guys are working out early, and our main guy(Big Al) is taking no breaks and is working on his game to be the best he can be.

Seeing those names on there make me happy, wish Telfair and Smith would be among the names too, but I know they have things going on.(family, enjoying offseason)

Remember RC, those guys didn't have contracts at the time. (though I guess Richard didn't either)
