MIN - NJ

Post#1 » by shrink » Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:14 pm

MIN GIVES: Cardinal + McCants + "some pick"
NJN GIVES: Stromile Swift (exp) + "Boone/Sean Williams"

NJN is stuffed full of big men, and can't play them all. In addition to Swift, Boone and Williams, they traded for Yi, and added Brook Lopez and Ryan Anderson. Even moving Swift, they don't have enough minutes to develop everyone, so they turn one into a pick. McCants would be a particularly nice fit next to Devin Harris, and give them the flexibility to move Vince Carter if the right deal came along.

For MIN, its adding big men that could play, but more importantly, movign Cardinal's contract to give us max cap space in 2009 without touching Mike Miller, and the flexibility to act on opportunities or facilitate deals to our benefit.

They have CDR who just had an impressive debut....would they even want McCants?

McCants had an impressive debut too, why are we trading him for PF #5?

Chris Douglas-Roberts went 40th in the second round for a reason. The Nets picked Ryan Anderson 21st.

I don't put much stock in pre-season games, whether they are CDR's, or McCants 20+ games.

Sometimes that reason is just stupid. I want to hang on to McCants.

Center #1 and back-up center #2-3?

Or do you think that Sean Williams can't get past Mark Madsen?

Really, the deal is a pick for Williams or Boone and Swift's usable expiring, with McCants to move Cardinal. I don't know what we'll have to pay McCants next year to keep him anyway.

Williams and Boone aren't really center size; Boone has some potential, but his skills are still rather weak and the lack of offense they both have plus their lack of size doesn't make them an overall more dangerous frontcourt pairing with Al Jefferson than Ryan Gomes, pretty much equal in my eyes. And Love is better than both of them, I don't see either of those better options than kevin Love

here's a list of true centers (realistically obtainable) that I think would be worth a move to make a 3 man rotation w/ Love and Jefferson:

Haywood, Diop, Dalembert, Dampier, Przybilla, Perkins, J. Foster, Nene, Varejao

I think under specific circumstances, you could potentially get one of those guys without giving up a top player and they'd be a good fit w/ Love and Jefferson and improvement over playing Collins or Gomes or Smith. Everybody else would be too hard to get, or a questionable improvement over playing Gomes or Smith or whatnot and not worth giving up McCants.

So why do you think that despite what "most of us" thought, he dropped 20 places. Heck, NJN drafted him, and even they took Ryan Anderson in front of him? What do you think happened to him that so many real front offices passed on him?

If i remeber correctly CDR dropped because of poor performances in non-game setting stuff.

CDR has a better chance of being an above average player than mccants, but mccants probably has a slightly higher ceiling imo.

I don't like this trade. Wolves have to stand pat imo. I could see a deal going down to bring a 5 in, but I'd imagine it would be for other assets
