Clippers shopping Kahman

Don't know if they would want to trade him to a team in the west but we are so terrible right now maybe they wouldn't mind.

Yeah Kahman is having a down year but he would be a descent fit next to Al.

What if anything do we have that the clippers would want for him?

How about something based on Miller to the Cavs, Big Z to Clippers, and Kaman to the Wolves?

I don't know if this would be enough to entice the Clippers, but it might be worth a phone call.

Wolves send:

Mike Miller
Rashad McCants
Jason Collins (expiring)
UTH first or BOS first

Clippers Send:

Chris Kaman
Cuttino Mobley (large contract but only for 2 years, still free up cap space in 2010)
MIN 1st returned

I'd keep Miller over Mobley - Miller is a better shooter all around reg and 3pt, better rebounder and he wants to be here. He is 4+ years younger and 4" taller than Mobley - we already lack height at most positions. I'll give you that Mobley is quicker and will get to the line more than Miller, but he is on his way down - Miller is still in his prime.

Let them keep the pick we gifted them with Sam Cassell for Jaric. If they want more add Cardinal's expiring (2yrs.) or Gomes - although I like Gomes here.

That is an awful trade for the clips. If you guys want Kaman then it will cost you Love.

Ha! Kaman had one good year of putting up big numbers because there was no one else to take away from his numbers. Now all of the sudden after playing relatively average this year he is worth the #5 pick in a great draft?

You can keep Kaman, he isnt worth what you are asking.

I agree that is probably accurate, and close to fair value (attached with maybe Cardinals contract) But taking on Kaman at the expense of Love would at best be good enough for an 8th seed and a first round exit. That would also cause our potentially top 5 pick this year to be sent to the Clippers (assuming we wuldn't finish in the bottom 10). The short term benefit would not be worth the long term meddling of mediocrity.

he's right though, Clippers have no use for any PGs, SGs, or SFs, they need a PF and Craig Smith isn't going to get it done.

While Kaman would be a great next to Al, this was a story from Peter Vescey, and he even went on to say that "Zach Randolph would be ideal" for LAC, so be suspicious.

I think Kaman may be a better player than Love, but he doesn't have as much trade value. The thing is, Kaman is already paid well, about $11 mil a year for the next four years, including passing the heavily-valued 2010 abyss. With Love, you'd get him for four years on that cheap rookie deal, at less than 1/3rd the price .. for four years. Moreover, Love has terrific upside .. something Kaman does not. Kaman may be a better player right now, but with the upside and the money involved, Love has a lot more trade value.

Finally, Vescey's article is predicated on Larry Brown wanting to get Kaman for the Bobs, and LAC being disinterested in anything CHA had to offer (i.e. --"how do I make this about the Knicks?"). You may want to play with it as a third team deal.

True, but you have to give something of value to get something thereby Miller would make sense.

I'm probably going to be alone in this, but I would do Collins (expiring which the Clippers would want), Love, and Utah/Boston pick for Kaman and MN 1st returned. Prefer Cardinal over Collins if we could do that.

I do it because Kaman would be a good compliment to Jefferson and would allow Gomes and Smith to play some PF without us getting killed on defense. I want a real center and Al back at PF.

We are more than happy to keep Kaman. In reality this is just another idiotic story by Peter the idiot and has no legs. It amazes me that an idiot who constantly just makes stuff up can still have a job.

The reason I included Mobley was to add more value to the Clippers end of the deal. Mobely is a high price contract, and I thought it might be a way to get Kaman without having to give up Love. I think a rotation of Love/Jefferson/Kaman is a great line, and I had pictured a lineup like this:

PG: Foye/Telfair
SG:Brewer/Mobley
SF:Gomes/Brewer
PF:Jefferson/Love
C:Kaman/Love

Good idea there and that would be a great frontline. I'm sure we'd have to include Craig Smith because while it gives LAC a 1-3 of Baron, Gordon/McCants, Thorton/Miller, they have no one at PF. Still not sure if they'd do it that way.

I'll probably regret mentioning this, but something along the lines of Al for Kaman, Gordon and/or Thornton and/or the Wolves pick back...

Wolves move forward with the whitest frontcourt in the league on Kaman, Love, Miller. Out of the plethora of young guards that would be on the team, you'd hope one would emerge. Just a thought.

Vescey's speculation is that Larry Brown wants Kaman, and LAC doesn't have anything the Clippers want. If Okafor truly is showing signs of dissension, maybe that's who they offered, and if the Clips didn't want him, he thought Zach could slide in. I think its all BS, but if we went down that road, we'd certainly be interested in Okafor if the Clippers aren't. Okafor is PPP, but let's skip that for now, since we're just fantasizing here.

I agree that Kevin Love would be adored in LAC and have tremendous value. Would we be able to say "no" to a deal like:

MIN GIVES: Cardinal + Love
MIN GETS: Okafor + MIN 1st from LAC

LAC GIVES: Kaman + MIN 1st
LAC GETS: Love + Cardinal

A fresh start .. youth with Thorton, and a popular USC guy on 1st year of rookie deal. Cardinal expires in 2010 with Mobely, Tim Thomas and Camby.

CHA GIVES: Okafor
CHA GETS: Kaman

Change their attitude.

Perhaps Jefferson/Love/Pekovic > Jefferson/Love/Kaman?

It would be horrible if we're starting Gomes again :(
