Your thoughts on Mike Miller?

Post#1 » by shrink » Tue Nov 18, 2008 8:29 pm

I'll start.

After seeing him decimate us last year, seemingly with an ability to score effortlessly anywhere and anytime he wanted to, I expected more out of Mike Miller. However, I have come to the conclusion that I've been wrong, and Miller has been fine.

Do you know who leads this team in FG%? Mike Miller is actually in front of Al Jefferson. Miller is also the #2 scorer on the team, and the #2 guy in assists, with over 4 APG a game.

What this says to me is that he's the smart McCants. I get frustrated seeing McCants not get his teammates involves, and jack up shots early in the clock without a thought about passing. Miller takes the shots when he has them, and feeds teammates when he doesn't. I feel his passing reduces the pressure on Foye to create team offense.

Now, I'm not an X's and O's guy, but would it be possible to run him off double screens, to give him more opportunities to score?

I think we need to set more screens for him and we need to use him in a Reggie Miller/Rip Hamilton type of way(He runs around to get free and once he gets the ball, he shoots, since he is a great shooter)

Or since he is a good passer, have him and Al do a pick and roll a lot, or a pick and pop with Gomes(I see them do that a lot)

Too bad he only throws up like 7 attempts a game.... he needs to shoot more. Like Rev said, Post Al up, and Miller stays at the arc... its that easy.

McCants is still young, and I think after a while he'll get it. He's got the tools, now he needs the maturity... which will come.

Thing is, if and when he figures it out he wont be in a Wolves uni.

McCants actually looked decent when we played Denver recently. not that I expect it to happen again though...

I agree with pretty much everything that has been said: he's smart but I also would like to see him being more aggressive.

Definitely needs to be more aggressive.

Or traded for Szczerbiak.

I have no qualms about MM thus far. Miller is known to shoot it when he's open. He's not goign to be creating his own shots. Problem is, this team has terrible ball movement and doesn't run enough for Miller to flourish.

I' m not worried about Miller so much but Wally was giving us more scoring wise. He should be killing Wally, he's a like a rich mans version. We just don't use him for right.

Flip would probably have Miller taking 30-35 shots per game.

He's just not used correctly like others have said. He should be putting up 16-18 ppg on our team.

I have no problem with Miller's game. I have a problem with how he's been used...as has been stated already in this thread so I won't expound any further lol

I think Miller is a good shooter who can be a great weapon for us. I do think he's much closer to a Dan Majerle role player who starts than a Ray Allen go to guy, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have value.

Right now I would say that Jefferson and MM should be leading the team in FG attempts, which isn't the case with MM.

Mccants is a much better at penetrating than Miller.

That being said, Miller needs to be put in a situation to score.
