I don't think Bassy should play as much as he does. The kid plays ZERO defense and is hurting our team more than helping it when he's on the floor. I don't mind him if he only plays spot minutes I just don't really think he should be in our longterm plans. I think we should pick up a PG in the mid/late 1st in the draft and find some way to get rid of him. Am I way off here? Thoughts?

I love Bassy's speed and assist/TO ratio and, as far as I know, he has been a model citizen and teammate while in Minny. However, he provides no offensive threat and plays terrible defense. I was actually mildly disappointed when he was re-signed. The only reasons I wasn't seriously disappointed were that we had no other reliable option and his contract wasn't bad. I think this team would be much better off with a defense-oriented PG to backup Foye.

I randomly thought about trading him to a team like the Spurs. a team playing great team D where his D wouldn't look too bad. plus imagine a possible back court duo of Parker and Bassy... you might clog the lane but I bet they still find ways to get by their defenders...

but as far as his future as a wolf, I wouldn't give up on him. sure he certainly won't be playing at least decent D but he's still very young (22? 23?) and I think improving your shot shouldn't be that hard.

srsly? I think he is playing pretty good. His def is not near as bad as people make it sound. He feeds well, pushes tempo and even has a little jumper this year.

^^Sure he feeds well, pushes tempo and has improved his jumper I just think his horrid defense cancels all of that out. It shouldn't be that hard for him to develop at least a little bit defensively. I'm not asking him to shut anyone down but if he could at least stay in front of his man and slow them down a little bit/make it harder for them to operate it would make a HUGE difference. We need all the perimeter D we can get as we don't necessarily have a defensive beast in the paint to stop them at the rim. Maybe I'm being too hard on him but I expect more. I'm not going to deny the fact that he has been a pleasant surprise and a model citizen I just think he could afford to exert a little more effort on defense.

^ he'll always have a mismatch defensively due to his size. there are only a handful players he might be able to defend like Parker or Ford. the others would simply bully through him. unless Bassy bulks up (which would kill his quickness and speed) I can't see a remote chance of him becoming a better defender. the only thing he might turn into could be a ball thief.

I'm not terribly concerned with his defense. As far as backup PGs in this league go, his defense is average, and his team-running skills are above par. There's only something to complain about if you're expecting him to be something he's not - he's only pulling down $2.5mil per after all. If he could shoot at all from distance, he'd be a whole lot deadlier on offense - that's what I'd like to see him work on.

The problem with Bassy is, he thinks he CAN shoot from long range. His shot selection is really bad at times. He is a very good passer but every once in a while he gets a little "im gonna get mines" on a possession and launches up a shot just inside the 3 with 19 seconds on the shot clock.

All in all, he is doing about what i expected.

I don't think that's a problem. He has to be willing to take long range shots and he has to be able to make them if he wants to be an effective player.

There are a lot of people just looking for stuff to complain about. As a young back up PG with a tiny contract Bassy is playing fine.

so far I can't recall seeing him taking such a shot or at least while not wide open. if he's wide open, take it to keep the D honest.

As a backup hes great, hes fast, handles the ball well and is able to push the pace.

as a starting point guard he is not enough

I'm curious if you can think of a team that where his attributes would be a better match? Perhaps trading him back to NYK to play with D'Antonio?

I dont think so. D'Antoni already has the equally small, equally fast, push the tempo guy in Nasty Nate, though he can shoot 3's and dunk. Someone mentioned San Antonio where team D would help compensate for his lack of D. That wouldnt be a bad fit.

I like him in Golden States offense honestly. Surrounded by 1304393 SG's he could get all kinds of scorers the ball on the break.

D'Antoni needs a PG who can shoot threes.
