Telfair to Knicks?

Well, I doubt it, and its from the NY Post, who has less credibility than Shooter. However, here's the line that RealGM reffered to:
NY Post wrote: As president Donnie Walsh scours other teams' rosters looking to fill their roster spot through a trade exception or disabled injury exception with a short-term contract, Telfair could be a candidate. Even if he opts in for the third year, his salary would be less than $3 million for 2010-2011.

I looked at the Knicks situation. Its hard to imagine that TPE's could get Telfair. Its hard to find official information on these, but I believe they have one worth about $1.4 mil for Balkman, and $1.0 mil for Mardy Collins. I think they are seperate, and I may be wrong, but CBA rules disallow a team from adding two TPE's together, which would be neccesary to cover Telfair's $2.3 mil salary, at 100% + $100,000 matching.
However, what they might be alluding to is the disabled player exception they'll get from Mobely, which should be around $4.5 mil, and cover Telfair's salary.
Does it make sense for the Knicks? Maybe. Telfair's speed, if he learned to control it, could fit with D'Antonio's up-tempo offense. The Brooklyn kid might still be able to fill some seats at MSG.
Does it make sense for the Wolves? Probably not. MIN would have to be pretty down on Telfair to think he's not worth his $2.3 mil contract, that they just gave him this summer. Even that third year (and we know how much the Wolves front office hates 2010 money) probably isn't enough to do this deal straight-up. Moreover, MIN has a definite hole at PG, and an injury could instantly give Telfair big minutes. We could find a replacement (Ahearn springs to mind), but do we want to add more change to the team?
There's really nothing on the Knicks roster that excites me. The Knicks have traded their 2nds, and their 1st is held in that complicated spin with Utah. David Lee (if we added more value) may be good, but he'll need a big contract next summer, and we have the PF position pretty full. Perhaps I could take a closer look at the constraints in the UTA-NYK-MIN pick protection, but seeing that this rumor is from the NY Post, I don't think I'll waste my time.

What if you brought a 3rd team like Chicago
MN
In Kirk Hinrich + 1 or 1.4 ml Trade Exception
Out McCants, Telfair and Collins
We put a severe dent in our FA $$$ for 2010 but we get a good point guard who can play defense and play the 2 guard also - something we have been searching for for years
The net effect on our 2009 payroll is Telfair -2.5 McCants -3.7(qualifying) Hinrich +9.5 = +3.3ml
New York
In Telfair and McCants
Out Mobley Exception + One of the other exceptions
Gets 2 players that fit their uptempo game and use up 2 exceptions
Chicago
In Collins + Mobley Exception
Out Hinrich
Clear out some log jam at point and $9.5mil off next years salary Collins will not add anything to their team. They might need a pick for incentive.

I'm sure after tonight's game the knicks will trade everything they allow to trade for telfair, and the wolves are thinking in the opposite diretion.........

They seem to like guys that jack up threes unnecessarily, so I guess McCants would fit right in.

Well Bassy wants to stay.
Rumor mill: Telfair came home to a New York Post report that the Knicks could make a move for him at some point.
How would the Wolves' backup point guard feel about that?
"I'm happy where I'm at," he said. "Anybody would like to play in their hometown. If it happens, I'd be happy, but I'm happy where I'm at."
As proof, he said he spent his Christmas in the Twin Cities, even with an opportunity to spend a couple extra days in New York.
"I actually stayed in Minnesota with my daughter, my son and my wife," he said. "That's home. Minnesota's home."
