when Loyala played Davidson, coach Patsos resorted to the very petty tactic of double teaming Stephen Curry everywhere just to keep him from scoring even though that left his team playing 3 on 4 every possession and they got blown out by 30

I propose McHale adopt the Loyala technique against OJ Mayo so he can say "see? I told you."

I don't know if teams are able to impose a Loyola v. Curry defense. There would be just too many other mismatches and wide-open shots for other players if we were to double team Mayo the whole time. It would definitely give McHale a sort of mental edge, but I don't think the Wolves, at this point in the season with the record they have, should be going for moral victories. This game is one that the Wolves can legitimately win, and they need to go for the win.

If Mayo gets really hot, then I could see constantly doubling him for a good period of time, but other than that, I think they should play their normal defense, but hopefully with some improved perimeter defense.

I think you missed the point. It's a great idea and we should go with it. In fact, they should have Love trap him in the far corner and not let him run up the floor. Then after the game we can scream how Love shut down Mayo. I LOVE IT!

Yeah that would be pretty sweet. I did get the point, but I just basically tried to state why the Wolves probably won't run it. I would run it if I were the coach. This would give us a one-up on Mayo.

Speaking of Love, is Jim Peterson right about him hitting the "rookie wall" already? That was his explanation for his limited minutes that last few games. So he hit the wall after 20-25 games... if true, very discouraging since he wasn't playing extensive minutes to begin with. I blame Devilsidewalk for endlessly campaigning for this tub of goo and then never giving up on him.

I wonder if part of the reason he hit the rookie wall so early was because his confidence was almost at nothing, which in my opinion is from poor coaching by Wittman. Wittman wouldn't give Love much of a chance because he has something against rookies, and then when Love would get one of his few chances, he would screw something up (missed shots, getting stuffed, missed free throws, dumb fouls, etc.). This just absolutely put love in a really deep hole.

That's only if Love can get more than his recent 8 mpg, allowing him to put up enough bricks and giving Mayo tons of easy looks inside (yea, I know Mayo doesn't go inside much, but it fits).

I'll be impressed if Love can actually accumulate more baskets than fouls.
