BOS - MIN

This one may be unworkable, but my goal was to move Craig Smith to BOS and create a roster spot for the Celtics to add a vet FA originally Marbury), in exchange for youth that the championship Celtics don't have the playing time to develop.

MIN GETS: JR Gidden, Bill Walker, Gabe Pruitt, Brian Scalabrine

BOS GETS: Craig Smith, Calvin Booth, Kevin Ollie, Mark Madsen

WHY FOR BOS: Craig Smith is very effective next to a help defender like Garnett, and is already familiar playing with him. Ollie is a vet PG that would certainly be beneficial. They can cut Booth to create a roster space. Madsen is very familiar with KG and knows his limited role. He is a two year deal similar to Scalabrine. Moving Pruitt creates PG minutes, and Smith would be more effective than Scalabrine.

WHY FOR MIN: We aren't getting anywhere, so we might as well get some pieces to develop. Scalabrine and Madsen is close to a financial wash. Losing Ollie would hurt us for wins this year, but we only have him for four more months anyway -- and its tough to make any deal fly without his salary because of Craig Smith's BYC. To me, it breaks down:

Craig Smith for late 1st (Giddens)
Madsen + Booth for Scalabrine (similar financial dead weight)
Ollie for Bill Walker + Pruitt

Finally, I like Craig Smith and Madsen, and I wouldn't feel bad about helping them get a ring (for Madsen, another ring). With Ollie in the deal, it probably keeps Marbury from getting one. Yes, I'm a very small man.

I'd rather use Craig in a trade for more established guys. I'll trade 2nd rounders and expirings for gambles, not rotation players. This trade is 2/5 of our (albeit, kinda lame) starting lineup

I'm intrigued by Walker, but we are pretty full at his position. The rest of the trade is shuffling role players (even though 2/5 of our starters are those role players).

One last comment: Patrick O'Bryant is riding the Celtic bench, and could probably be subbed for any of the three young players. Of the three, BOS would probably most want to move Pruitt, creating minutes at PG.

Patrick O'Bryant $797,581 $855,189 (unguaranteed)

Boston says no. Craig Smith is a nice player, but we already have 2 undersized 4s playing as the backup 5.
