http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... ivingston/According to a report published by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Miami Heat informed guard Shaun Livingston last night after the team's loss to San Antonio that he has been released.
An official announcement is expected on Tuesday morning.
According to the report, Livingston's release is more because of luxury tax reasons rather than his health. He had been attempting a comeback from a gruesome Feb. 26, 2007 knee injury that left him with a dislocated left kneecap and three torn ligaments.
Livingston seemingly had grown increasingly frustrated over his lack of opportunity, displaying disappointment over his nightly spot on the inactive list.
With the release, the Heat could utilize the vacated roster spot on a 10-day contract with another player or hold it open for a return by center Alonzo Mourning, who is rehabilitating from a Dec. 2007 knee injury.

well since Ollie is gone for a while anywayz, why dont we give this dude a try? he's a low risk high reward guy that eagers to show that he's not injured anymore, i thought it'd be nice to grab him, I mean, didnt we try to compete against the heats for signning this guy? and we failed and so we signned Ollie? so....doesnt hurt to give a try now I presume.....

If he is willing to come and if he can actually play then it is low risk. We can 10-day contract him right? I don't know if he would be willing to come over here though.

A problem is that we have already 15 players on our team and would have to buy one of them out to give Livingston a chance. I'm all for buying out Booth but I don't think it will happen...I'd also like if we could have a look at Courtney Sims but we have no spots -.-

Don't we gain a roster spot since Brewer is on IR?

No, it is not like football.
Philly paid us the money to buy out Booth. So lets just do it and bring in Livingston. We wanted him at the beginning of the year and with ollie's injury and Foye doing so well at the SG then he should be looked at.

He would not have wanted to play for us 2 weeks ago with 2-3 point guards and s-u-c-k-i-n-g.
However, we have shown improvement and he would have immediately available playing time here. It's not like he has played on a consistent winner yet in the NBA.
He could be the combo guard we have been looking for. It definitely would be a lot harder for opposing PG's to shoot or pass over him. He takes away sight lines with his height and passing opportunities with his arms.

Is he healthy? I know the report said it was more about lux tax concerns than health but I have to wonder. Why wasn't he getting PT in Miami?
If he is truely healthy and ready to play, then let's get him. Otherwise, I'd rather pick up a cheap vet PG to fill in for Ollie.

Posters on the Miami board say his legs and movement are not 100%
I wouldn't mind giving him a shot for cheap, but gimpy pgs make me cringe.

You would have been right up until the last Collective Bargaining Agreement. So many teams were expanding their rosters by putting people on the IR for imaginary injuries, that the NBA and Players Union decided to simply get rid of all of the BS, and say you have three reserve spots, for guys that will not dress, and up to 12 players in uniform.
The new rule cause a miraculous reduction in "right knee tendinitis" claims, but has the unintentional effect of making teams have to cut their roster in a trade before they could agree to a deal that would send them extra players .. even ones they planned on cutting. In the past, they'd put a healthy player on the IR, do the trade, but the new-comer they didn't want, then reactivate the guy on the IR. Now they have to cut the roster to 14.
Anyway, right now, teams have 15 roster slots, whether the players who fill them are healthy, injured, or playing in the NBDL. The only exception to roster limits is owning the rights to Euro's (so Pekovic doesn't hurt us), but obviously, these aren't players with contracts .. they are just rights.

Sign him to a couple of 10 day contracts before we sign anything longer - we'd be on the hook for what roughly $50,000 per contract - sounds good to me.

I don't think it would hurt to take a flier on him if the Wolves can create a roster spot. None of the playoff teams are going to take up a roster spot with Livingston at this point.

I'd consider taking a flier on him, but is he even healthy enough to play for us and make any kind of impression on what he could or couldn't do with a 10 day contract?

That's the way it looked when I saw him. He's not ready and they don't need him.

Miami is dangerously close to the lux, and that may have been a factor as well.

Livingston's had a busy couple of days, waived by the Heat, traded to Memphis and then waived by Memphis.
