Toronto Raptors guard Jose Calderon was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to move past Calvin Murphy for third place on the NBA's list for consecutive free throws made.
one of our OG Wolves Michael Williams holds the record w/ 97 consecutive from 1993
we got India answering all our customer service questions, Mexicans taking all our lucrative manual labor jobs, now Spaniards living in freakin Canada of all places making all our free throws
I propose we change the name of free throws to freedom fries

Damn right they're ours. They are FREE throws, aren't they. You know, "land of the FREE" and all that. If they weren't supposed to ours, they would be counted in metric.

So what's he at now? I don't think there's any way he passes 97. Now that the press got a hold of it, he probably knows about it, and the crowds will know about it which will make it all the worse. He's only at 79 so almost another 20 to go. I just don't think he can do it.

Do they play in Minny any time soon? If so, someone should bring in an air horn for a Jose free throw.

In about a month. He'll either have missed or passed it by then.
I think it would be neat if he set a new record for free throw shooting percentage in a season.

Micheal Williams has much bigger concerns these days than worrying about his consecutive free throw record being broken.
The former guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, who once was traded for former Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell and played the final two games of his NBA career as a member of the Raptors, is the president and CEO of 3i Construction, one of the fastest growing general contractors in Dallas and currently engrossed in the building of the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium Facility in Arlington, Tex.
The state-of-the-art facility will consist of a retractable roof stadium, seating approximately 75,000 patrons, with more than 200 suites, and multiple restaurants and lounges.
So while Williams is well aware of Jose Calderon's assault on his record, he's not exactly following it game by game.
Nor will he be the least bit disappointed should Calderon best his 16-year-old mark of 97 consecutive successful free throws, which Calderon is 11 shy of tying.
"Tell him good luck from me and I'm cheering for him," Williams said yesterday.
MURPHY'S LAW
The Baylor graduate says he believes records are made to be broken, a far cry from the Calvin Murphy's of the world.
Murphy, the former Houston Rockets guard who held the mark before Williams broke it in 1993, still holds the mark for the highest free throw percentage for a single season, a mark which also could be in jeopardy should Calderon continue on his current path.
Murphy has been known to show up and do whatever possible as a distraction to ensure his lone remaining mark stands, and has promised to be there when the Raps visit Houston on March 3.
Williams is not that sort.
"(Calderon) won't see one sign of Micheal Williams at any of his games," Williams said, "but he will get a phone call from me congratulating him if he does break it."
PS good job by Micheal Williams, good example for other professional athletes how to effectively manage and invest your assets for a viable career after you retire

happy ending
The incredible free-throw run by Toronto Raptors point guard Jose Calderon came to an end late in the fourth quarter last night when he missed the second of two, ending his string at 87 in a row dating back to late last season. Calderon entered last night's game needing 11 more free throws to match Micheal Williams's NBA record of 97 consecutive free throws made. Calderon came into the game having made 86 in a row dating back to late last season
