Wolves Trade: Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, Ryan Gomes, Mark Madsen, Craig Smith, 2009 2nd Rd Pick


Why Knicks ?

The Knicks would finally add a consistent outside threat in Mike Miller, who is also capable of playing point at times. Miller would slide into the Knicks starting SG spot, which has been lacking production since the departure of Jamal Crawford. In addition, the Knicks would receive a 2009 2nd Rd Pick, which will most likely be in the top 5 of the 2nd RD. At this pick, there will be some hidden gems that we may able to find. (Tyrese Rice, Jeremy Pargo, Terrence Williams, Sam Young, Taj Gibson, Dionte Christmas)

Why Wolves?

Simply put: Cap Relief. With a projected NBA Salary Cap at 60 Million for the 2009-2010 season, the Wolves would have 38 million in cap space to spend on the Best of the 2009 NBA Free Agents.

It looks like the T-Wolves need a Small Forward, a TRUE point guard, and maybe some additional scorers on this team. Looking at the 2009 NBA Free Agent Class, I would give Carlos Boozer 15 mil per yr, Ron Artest 12 M per year, and Andre Miller 11 M per yr.

No way. Wolves might consider trading one useful player to for a big expiring but not 3 (MIller, Gomes, Smith).

Maybe something like this would be more beneficial to both teams:

MN Incoming: Stephon Marbury and Eddy Curry, 2009 1st round pick

NY Incoming: Mike Miller, Jason Collins, Calvin Booth, Brian Cardinal, Mark Madsen, BOS 09 Draft pick, Utah 09 Draft pick

MN cuts salary and gets a draft pick for taking on Curry, NY gets Miller (who would be great under Dantoni), dumps Curry and is all set for 2010, they also add young pieces with the late draft picks.

We just traded for Miller this summer and signed Smith and Gomes. Pretty sure we're not going to give them away for literally nothing.

Um, you can only have 15 players on a roster, and this trade would put NYK at 17, not to mention it doesn't even work in the trade checker.

NYK needs Marbury's full expiring to get close to under the lux, so anyone who has a 2-year deal costs NYK double, so the deal doesn't work for them.

I seriously doubt Glen Taylor would ever accept Marbury back after his behavior here alongside Garnett. Even if he did, the worst contract MIN is shipping out become expirings in five months, and most deals like this include additional compensation coming to MIN, not the wolves kicking in the reasonably-priced Gomes, Craig Smith, and a mysterious 2nd.

I don't think we'd be able to attract one of those free agents let alone four. Boozer will be in either Utah or Miami, Artest and Miller want wins fast, and Zaza is onto a pretty good thing in Atlanta.
