When we made the KG trade there was debate if Al Jefferson was the stud, or if Gerald Green was the key to the trade. (Gomes was a throw-in and Bassy was hardly that)
Al Jefferson has become a keeper. Needs to work on defense and passing, but as a 24 yr old low post player he is a long term key or trade piece.
But Gerald Green got limited burn and was sent packing.
How would the dynamic of this team change if Gerald Green would have been productive? If he could have become a 15ppg starter for us?
Better yet, why didnt he? Why did Al blow up, and Gerald Green fade out? Was it Wittman?

Re: Revisiting Gerald Green
Green had faded out in Boston. He doesn't have much for basketball IQ, little desire to improve, and I think his defense was pretty horrible. He could shoot and fly, but that's not enough. I'm sure Wittman had a little to do with it, but why hasn't he caught on in Houston or Dallas or anywhere else, yet?

Gerald Green's basketball IQ and defensive abilities amounted to - "I have to concentrate. I have to stay focused. Oh look there's a butteryfly - wait, what was I doing? um basketball. I have to concentrate. I have to stay focused .......
This lack of basketball IQ and focus are not the coaches fault.
Graceful athlete with the ability to shoot - a ditzier version or McCants.

I've been a fan since the beginning and I will be until my end.

Gerald Green is one of these guys that should have gone to collage for a few years to learn the game. Where is he playing now? Dallas? Green is still young though maybe one day it will click and he can become a decent player in the league.

Unfortunately he's probably getting to the end of his road. His best bet would be to not sign with an NBA team and try to catch on with a D-League team, as I believe they have to be in their 1st or 2nd year to be sent down by the big club, or he should try signing with a bad franchise with little talent and a lot of young players. He probably wouldn't look bad in Oklahoma. I mean the whole team sucks, how much worse could it get? He needs regular minutes during regular season games.

Great baketball players have athleticism, skill, BBIQ, and mental toughness. Gerald Green has athleticism.

Re: Revisiting Gerald Green
I never had much faith that Green would come around. I mean the FO was making fun of him the first day we got him for crying out loud. He produced on a horrible Boston team because he was given significant minutes and had plenty of shot opportunities. Much like Mccants last year actually. When we acquired him I don't think it took long to figure out he's athletic and is a decent shooter but that's exactly where it ends. He might drop 15ppg if he plays but he would cause at least 15ppg+ of damage to our team. Being an NBA caliber basketball usually means that you have top of the line talent in most/all facets of the game. Green doesn't even come close.

Green has had a few real nice games for Dallas, he had starter on him when Howard was out. inconsistent.

Re: Revisiting Gerald Green
I agree with the idea that Green was more athlete than basketball player. Now a great athlete can become a good basketball player, but I think that's where an athlete coming out of high school really needed some college experience to teach them basketball.
