McCants - at least the Contract is Tradable

A lot of people want to see McCants traded, and think he will bring nothing back in return. I disagree. At a minimum, he's an expiring, and can be seen as a positive trade asset if he didn't play another minute.

However, his current contract (not his performance) is perfect for trading. He has the potential in him to be productive (15 PPG last year), but its highly unlikely. If a team trades for him, and he succeeds, they have his Bird Rights and can match any offer if they give him a QO. If he fails, they aren't tied into him, and can just let him walk as an expiring, so there is little risk.

What we need to find is a win-now team who really needs off-the-bench SG production, and is willing to buy low to gamble on it. They need to have incentive to win now, but not necessarily want to spend major assets to address that problem. They need to be willing to give up a future prospect that may not help now. If they are over the lux or concerned about their finances, that's a plus too.

I still think BOS fits this mold, particularly with KG to keep McCants on the straight-and-narrow. Any other likely suspects?

I would think as much time as he has spent on the bench he might find any way possible to get some minutes. There is obvious reasons why he is there but I do think he can turn it around. When he doesn't just launch shots he has a great shot and he is athletic. I think he could eventually could play an important role on the wolves. He has been a 6th man in the past!

You're right. I see it almost like last years Gerald Green scenario

Could Green be the fault of coaches? McCants could be the coaches fault too because he was allowed to take poor shots but still get the minutes?

It would have been interesting to see what McHale would have done with Green, had he been coach then.

I think Shad could be a nice player under the right coach.

Doesn't really matter to me if we trade him or not, just as long as he doesn't get any playing time on our team.

McCants will be a good player in a veteran-heavy team.

A team like the Celtics where all the players are passionate and vocal is a team I could see McCants fitting into nicely.

I don't think Gerald Green has any basketball skills so no coach will make him good. McCants has skills and I think he can blossom in the right situation.

As for trading him, I'm OK with trading him if we can get the right package back or keeping him for is expiring. At this point he isn't hurting the team.
