??TWO TRADES?? - MIN/CLV & MN/UTA/NY

Post#1 » by TDWOLVESFAN » Wed Jan 28, 2009 12:32 am

I know this has been tossed around before - but look at both trades before condemning this one.
*Edit* We end up at 43.6 mil committed for 2009. If we resign Carney @ 4-5 ml per season sign 2-3 first rounders (depending if we trade picks etc.) for 5-6 mil we still have 8-10 mil for a top level free agent.
MN / CLV
MIKE MILLER + JASON COLLINS' EXPIRING + MARK MADSEN FOR WALLY SZCZERBIAK'S EXPIRING + ANDERSON VAREJAO

MN / UTA / NY
MN
IN: BREVIN KNIGHT'S EXPIRING AND JARON COLLINS (YEP THE CHEAPER BROTHER'S EXPIRING)
OUT: RASHAD McCANTS AND CALVIN BOOTH

UTAH
IN: TIM THOMAS AND CALVIN BOOTH
OUT: BREVIN KNIGHT, CJ MILES or KYLE KORVER AND JARON COLLINS
They are almost out of forwards this season with all of their injuries. They only pick up 2.3 mil in $$$ over the next 2 years.

NY
IN: RASHAD McCANTS AND CJ MILES or KYLE KORVER
OUT: TIM THOMAS
Rashad can go someplace he may be wanted and CJ OR KYLE MAKE THE $$$$ WORK.

* Although I like Mike Miller I think we pick up a center that complements Al & Kevin in Verajao.
* We get another proven shooter in Wally (sucks on defense though) and his expiring contract.
* We get another point guard who is a very good ballhandler and passer albeit he is small.
* We dump Rashad!!!!!
* We shave 6.4 mil off our salaries for negotiating this offseason
I've been a fan since the beginning and I will be until my end.

MN does not move Miller unless Cardinal is involved.

In trade two it looks like we're moving expirings for expirings so not sure about that one.

I can't stand to watch Varejao, but I have to admit that I think he would compliment Al. However, CLE relies in him very heavily, and would be unwilling to give him up. CLE fans are down now on a Miller + Cardinal for Wally + 1st deal, because of Miller's "horrible play." I think his play has been fine, but he has no confidence in his shot. I have complete confidence he'll work his way through it, so there's no rush for me to move Miller. He and Cardinal's trade value will only get higher, and I don't care if CLE loses home court advantage in the meantime.

I might do #2 if they reduced some of the restrictions on their pick. McCants may not play for us, but he's the only guy in the deal with the potential to help a team.

I know you mentioned this on the trade board too - it cracks me up how the Cavs FO is talking about Miller (who I think would be an outstanding fit next to LBJ) while many of the CLE fans are genuinely horrified at the thought of trading even Wally for him.

I don't think that them not wanting to do the trade has as much to do with Mike Miller as it does with some (extremely homeristic) fans honestly thinking that they could bring in a young star player using only Wally's expiring and an extremely late first.

Yes, but we get a pass first point guard and a cheaper center both of whom we get to look at the rest of the year without screwing up 2009 or 2010 cap space. We also get rid of McCants who adds no value to this team right now but might be add value to NY.

Utah gets some bigs to help out now without adding too much to their payroll over the next two years.

New York gets a couple of shooters to fit in their offense and unloads Thomas' contract.
