BOS - MIN - OKC

With OKC losing their starting SG Des Mason for the season, I think this might be an improvement on the BOS-MIN deal:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/t ... &te=&cash=

OKC GETS: JR Giddens (2 yr) + Eddie House (2 yr) + McCants (RFA - exp) + Collins (exp)
OKC GIVES: Joe Smith (exp) + Des Mason (exp)

MIN GIVES: 2009 BOS 1st + Rashad McCants + Jason Collins + Kevin Ollie
MIN GETS: 2010 BOS 1st + Patrick O'Bryant (exp) + Des Mason (exp) + $3.5 mil TPE

BOS GIVES: 2010 BOS 1st + O'Bryant (exp) + Giddens (2 yr) + Eddie House (2 yr)
BOS GETS: 2009 BOS 1st + Joe Smith (exp) + Kevin Ollie (exp-vet min)

For MIN, compared to the last deal, we have to give up Giddens, but he's guaranteed money next year, and we create a valuable $3.5 mil TPE, which may have more trade value. We get a free peek at local POB, but mostly we delay and probably upgrade the BOS pick.

FOR OKC, Smith and Mason aren't going to be back next year, and they want to avoid playing Green or Durant there. Wilkins and Kyle Weaver don't impress. They can take a free look at McCants and a reasonably priced Eddie House. Eddie's two year, so they also get Giddens for prospect value.

FOR BOS, there has been plenty of talk of going after Joe Smith, which fits exactly what their bench needs. Ollie's play-off experience should help.

I would prefer sending McCants to BOS to be with KG, but they simply don't have enough contracts to match up, especially after including Joe Smith, who is exactly what they need. The Mason/Collins expiring swap produces enough cap space for OKC to receive Giddens. Eddie House would have to approve the deal, but in OKC he gets a chance to start, and get attention as more than the guy who isn't Ray Allen.

LOL! Your 8 PPG guy on a two-year deal to fix your size needs?

And don't you prefer Tony Allen for his defense/size?

House is a key rotation guy for them and Powe is way better than Joe Smith. Why any of these teams would go to such convoluted extremes to make a trade that is so bleh? Why don't we just ship the bobs McCants for a future 2nd? they have the cap room.

OK ok, I've probably read about a half dozen times how BOS wants to get Joe Smith, so that's what I was aiming for. BOS just doesn't have the contracts to get it done, either in size, or in value they'd be willing to move. The BOS 2009-to-2010 swap creates value, but it can only be done with us, otherwise they get Stepiened. BOS fans often said McCants didn't fit though, but I'll step back.

If it was just a deal for a second, MIN could do McCants for Sene and the 2nd. I think Sene's done for the season, and OKC declined his option.

I agree with the Boston poster. No way Boston moves House. His teammates love him. The fans love him. He's a major spark plug for that team and his three point shooting has been off the charts.

That's weird because the ones who've posted before said Tony Allen was the guy, but I suppose I could have been misinformed when you only talk to a few people. TA has a similar contract, but his small BYC makes it a little harder, since the Celtics have a hard time getting their salaries big enough to match Joe Smith.

I think a smaller deal would better suit Boston's interest-- a deal where they wouldn't have to give up anyone from their current rotation. Maybe a deal with Milwaukee--- Malik Allen for J.R. Giddens? Ideally, they'd probably just want PJ to come back.

Tony Allen has been pretty much playing like garbage, while House has been lighting it up.. he's a huge sparkplug off the bench, the other posters are right. Leon Powe is also a key part of the bench too, and while he's slumped lately, he's still young and contributes.

Despite what a few Boston posters have stated, I think Boston would prefer the McCants + Ollie for POB + JR G + Sammy C deal to this one. Like you say, that deal would free up a roster spot as well to attempt to convince someone like Robert Horry to sign with them and take care of their length problems.

If not Robert Horry, perhaps Pops Mensah-Bonsu
